From Sketches to Success: Rachel’s Creative Journey With Doodle Mama Designs Turning Pet Love Into Playful Art

How Doodle Mama Designs Found Its Place

For Rachel, the path to building Doodle Mama Designs wasn’t carefully mapped out. It unfolded naturally, sparked by her love of dogs and her need for a creative outlet while balancing the rigors of an MBA program. Today, her Etsy shop, DoodleMamaDesigns21, is a colorful destination where playful art and pet-inspired creations meet.

As a proud dog mom to Mr. Murphy and Sir Theodore, Rachel often says her two companions are more than pets. They’re her daily muses, offering a never-ending source of energy, humor, and warmth. Their personalities show up in the artwork she shares, making her designs feel authentic, joyful, and relatable. Customers aren’t just buying a product; they’re taking home something that reflects the love between people and their furry friends.

Inspiration That Started at Home

The story begins with long days and nights spent buried in coursework. Rachel was working her way through an MBA, tackling presentations, projects, and exams. While the program was rewarding, it left little room for breathing space. To recharge, she turned to her sketchbook. What began as small doodles quickly turned into something more meaningful.

Murphy and Theodore had a way of sneaking into her drawings. Murphy’s high-energy zoomies and Theodore’s cheeky expressions became recurring themes. Sketching them felt like a release, a way to capture the moments that made her smile each day. Her husband, amused by her growing collection of drawings, encouraged her to share them. She took the leap and began posting online.

The response was stronger than she expected. People resonated with her playful take on life with dogs. The more she shared, the clearer it became: her art wasn’t just helping her relax; it was connecting with others who saw their own pups reflected in her work.

Turning Passion Into a Business

What started as a creative side activity slowly grew into something with greater potential. Rachel decided to open her Etsy store, naming it Doodle Mama Designs to reflect her role as both artist and dog mom. With her MBA knowledge guiding her decisions, she treated her new shop like a true business while never losing the heart behind it.

Seasonal launches became part of her rhythm. Holiday-themed collections drew in customers looking for cheerful, unique pieces, while everyday dog mom favorites kept the shop lively year-round. Each design carried her hand-drawn touch, making them stand out in a digital world full of mass-produced graphics. Over time, her shop developed a loyal following. Dog owners weren’t just shopping; they were celebrating their pets through Rachel’s designs.

The business also allowed her to merge different parts of her identity. She was the artist who found relaxation in doodles, the MBA graduate with business strategy skills, and the pet mom who saw inspiration in her dogs’ quirks. Together, these threads wove into a brand that continues to grow.

Products That Capture the Spirit of Dog Love

Visitors to her Etsy store are met with a wide range of creative products. Each one carries a sense of fun and a nod to the joy pets bring. The Wild as Hell Dog Tee is a bold statement piece, while the Labrador Club Sweatshirt celebrates breed pride with comfort. Personalized options like the Dog Lover Sipper Glass add a custom touch that makes them perfect for gifts.

Her designs also shine through seasonal items. The Halloween Dog Tote Bag pairs spooky charm with a dog-lover’s twist, while the Hand-Drawn Western Pet Portrait highlights her ability to blend style with personality. For those looking for something whimsical, pieces like the Vibrant Surfing Dog Beach Towel and the Surfing Goldendoodle Dog Tee showcase her playful approach to design.

Every product is more than a piece of merchandise. It’s a little reflection of what it feels like to share life with a dog: the laughter, the companionship, and the moments you wouldn’t trade for anything.

Celebrating Joy, One Design at a Time

Rachel often reflects on how Doodle Mama Designs started with the need to decompress after long MBA days. What seemed like a small hobby has grown into a brand with heart, fueled by community support and endless inspiration from Murphy and Theodore. Her designs don’t just decorate clothes, totes, or glasses. They serve as reminders of the simple happiness dogs bring to our everyday lives.

Her Etsy shop has become more than a storefront. It’s a gathering place for dog moms, dads, and anyone who believes pets make the world brighter. With each product, Rachel continues her mission of spreading joy, celebrating love for dogs, and giving her community something cheerful to carry with them.

The story of Doodle Mama Designs proves that inspiration doesn’t need to come from grand plans. Sometimes, it starts with two goofy dogs, a sketchbook, and the courage to share what makes you smile.

We had the privilege of interviewing Rachel. Here are excerpts from the interview.

Hi Rachel, it’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.

Hi, I’m proud dog mom to two lovable goofballs — Mr. Murphy and Sir Theodore, my fluffy sidekicks who keep me on my toes. I’m the founder and artist behind Doodle Mama Designs, where I create playful, hand-drawn digital art, seamless patterns, and seasonal collections inspired by the joy dogs bring to our lives. With an MBA, I’ve blended my business knowledge with my creative passion to build a brand that celebrates the bond between pets and their people. From holiday-themed art to everyday dog mom favorites, every design I create is made to bring a little more joy into the world.

Please tell us about your journey.

Doodle Mama Designs began as a simple creative outlet. While I was earning my MBA, I used art as my way to decompress — after a long day of classes, group projects, and studying, I’d relax by sketching and experimenting with design ideas. Murphy and Theodore became my biggest inspiration, from Murphy’s silly zoomies to Theodore’s sweet-but-sassy personality. Their antics kept finding their way into my sketches, and before I knew it, I was sharing my designs online. The response from fellow dog lovers was incredible. That little side passion grew into an Etsy shop, then seasonal product launches, and eventually a brand with a loyal, supportive community. Today, Doodle Mama Designs is where my love for dogs, my creative expression, and my business know-how come together in the best way.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

• Blending business and creativity — My MBA gave me the strategy and branding foundation, and my art gave me the heart connection.

• Community first — I treat my audience like friends, not just customers, and that’s built loyalty and trust.

• Seasonal and relatable designs — I create for real-life dog parents who love celebrating all of life’s little moments with their pups.

• Consistency — Even on days I feel uninspired, I show up. That steady presence has been key to growth.

• Customer collaboration — Many of my most-loved designs started with a customer idea.

Any message for our readers?

Start before you feel ready. I never planned for my grad school “stress relief” sketches to become a business, but they did because I kept showing up and sharing them. Your passion might start small, but that’s often where the magic begins. If you’re a fellow dog lover, know that every design I create is inspired by real-life moments with Murphy and Theodore — the goofy zoomies, the holiday traditions, and the everyday snuggles. My hope is that when you see my art, it reminds you of your own pup and the special bond you share. And yes… go ahead and give your dog an extra treat from us.

Thank you so much, Rachel, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
