Winners: Author Marie Louise Stevens Creates an Unforgettable Thriller About Courage Under Pressure

Some stories capture attention because of their action. Others leave a lasting impact through the emotional journeys of their characters. Winners by Marie Louise Stevens successfully brings both elements together, delivering a suspenseful romance where ambition, trust, and resilience become just as important as solving a dangerous mystery.

Set against the demanding worlds of professional skiing and classical music, the novel follows two talented women determined to reclaim their futures after becoming victims of a relentless cyberstalker.

When Extraordinary Talent Meets Extraordinary Risk

Kate Skinner and Elise Johansen have spent years working toward careers that very few people ever achieve. Kate’s goal is victory on the downhill ski circuit, while Elise has dedicated her life to becoming an internationally respected violinist. Their friendship provides strength through every challenge, yet even that bond is tested when sophisticated spyware invades their personal lives.

Private moments suddenly become public, exposing secrets that should never have been seen. Their confidence begins to crumble as humiliation spreads online and fear follows them wherever they go. Every training session, rehearsal, and public appearance carries the weight of knowing someone is constantly watching.

Marie creates believable emotional tension by showing how cyberstalking reaches beyond computers and social media. It damages careers, weakens relationships, and forces people to question their own sense of security. Kate and Elise must overcome far more than technical threats. They are challenged to rediscover belief in themselves while continuing to chase the dreams they have spent years pursuing.

Their determination becomes one of the novel’s greatest strengths. Each obstacle reveals another layer of their resilience, making it easy for readers to invest in their journey.

Danger, Love, and a Race Against Time

The suspense grows stronger as the investigation surrounding the spyware intensifies. FBI Agent Pete Burke has already spent months working undercover in search of the criminal responsible for creating the destructive software. His mission changes when he is assigned to protect Kate, placing him directly in the middle of an increasingly dangerous situation.

During the investigation, Pete develops deep feelings for Elise. Their relationship grows through shared responsibility, trust, and mutual respect, giving the novel an emotional balance that complements the fast-moving plot.

Kate also discovers unexpected support through her coach, J.P. He understands the emotional damage left behind by months of intimidation and public exposure. His encouragement helps Kate rebuild both her confidence and her competitive focus. As their connection deepens, readers witness a romance built on patience, loyalty, and genuine understanding.

The four protagonists eventually unite with one objective: stop the cyberstalker before another attack destroys everything they have fought to protect. As Kate prepares for the most important World Cup run of her career, every minute counts. The investigation turns into a desperate search for answers, creating an exciting finale filled with urgency and high emotional stakes.

More Than a Thriller, A Celebration of Courage

While Winners offers plenty of suspense, its lasting message centres on personal growth. Marie Louise Stevens presents women who refuse to allow fear or previous disappointments to define their futures. Kate and Elise have experienced setbacks that could easily have ended their ambitions, yet they continue moving forward with determination and hope.

Their stories highlight the reality that success rarely arrives without sacrifice. Confidence must often be rebuilt after failure. Dreams demand persistence, especially when circumstances seem impossible. Those ideas resonate throughout the novel, making the victories feel deeply earned.

The author’s focus on women’s empowerment gives the narrative additional depth. Rather than waiting for circumstances to improve, the protagonists actively confront danger, protect one another, and continue striving for excellence. Their courage becomes an inspiration that extends beyond the fictional competitions they enter.

Readers who enjoy romantic suspense will appreciate how the novel combines emotional relationships with contemporary issues such as online privacy, cybercrime, and digital security. These themes make the story feel timely while keeping the focus firmly on the human experiences behind every challenge.

With its official release scheduled for 27 August 2026, Winners is available for pre-order through Pegasus Publishers, offering readers an opportunity to experience an engaging debut that blends romance, suspense, and determination into one compelling narrative.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Hi, thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

I’m a full-time novelist, working on my third book. Winners is my debut book. I started writing novels a few years back when I was having sleep problems and would devote two or three hours in the middle of the night to writing. Now I write during the daytime!

Please share your journey with our readers.

My journey has been from journalism to writing reports and nonfiction documents for clients to finally sitting down and writing the fiction I have wanted to write!

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Strategies I use include writing an outline and scaffolding the book, and doing as much research as possible to help the story ring true. I read a lot, and reading other authors is always a tremendous help. It is also really helpful to have support at home: my husband never asks “what are you doing” when I am sitting and thinking about something for a book!

Writing is a solitary practice, and you have to be comfortable being alone with your thoughts for a long period of time every day. For me, the sense of solitude was not hard, as I had grown up in the world of competitive classical piano and spent hours a day at practice.

Any message for our readers?

I think everyone should try to be a writer. Everyone CAN write. It is like music; it takes practice and the willingness to keep at it. Read a lot, and write: those are the two mantras that I would share with anyone.

Thank you so much, Marie, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
