As the creative force behind Parabox Speekers, Powell has developed a style that blends psych-folk, dream pop, ambient music, spoken word, and experimental storytelling. Throughout the project’s catalog, recurring themes of mythology, ancestry, identity, memory, and transformation remain central. AD / BC fits naturally within that artistic direction, bringing together songs that have steadily evolved until they matched the atmosphere Powell originally envisioned.
Songs That Gain New Depth
Each track on AD / BC carries its own personality while contributing to the album’s cohesive flow. “Hunky Dory” begins the listening experience with warm acoustic textures and an inviting atmosphere that gently introduces the record’s reflective mood. “(I Wanna Be) Your Melody” follows with expressive vocals surrounded by soft, dreamlike production that enhances its emotional intimacy.

A Creative Journey Across Multiple Releases
The history behind AD / BC stretches back to an unreleased project recorded in 2011 called Swings and Roundabouts. Although it contained twelve songs, Powell was dissatisfied with the recording and mixing. Rather than abandoning those compositions, he gradually reshaped them over several years.
Nine of the original tracks were reworked for Adliya and Juffair (2014), released under his earlier artist name, Parabox. One additional song later appeared on Here in Skin (2020), while another found its place on ١٥٧٤ (2022). Even after Adliya and Juffair was released, Powell still felt the mixes were incomplete and noted that the album had never been mastered.
As his production experience expanded and better software became available, ten of the album’s eleven tracks received another round of development. Four were released on Here in Skin (2020), three appeared on ١٥٧٤ (2022), and three became part of Touch Wood (2025). Those same songs continued to evolve, with six eventually reaching AD / BC and four appearing on 1574. During that process, several songs were also given new titles that more closely reflected their inspiration and overall atmosphere.
The visual identity followed a similar path. The cover artwork created for Adliya and Juffair became the foundation for the covers of 1574 and AD / BC, while also influencing the design of Powell’s website. Together, these details highlight a creative vision that has remained connected across multiple releases.
Why This Album Matters
Looking across the broader Parabox Speekers catalog reveals how naturally AD / BC fits within Powell’s continuing artistic development. Here in Skin (2020) represented an important stage in refining earlier material, while ١٥٧٤ (2022) introduced many listeners to the project’s distinctive balance of experimental songwriting and emotional accessibility. That release also received recognition from Jeremy at Sleeping Bag Studios, who praised its unique character and approachable style.
Touch Wood (2025), recorded entirely in 432Hz, continued that progression through immersive storytelling and layered production. Earlier in 2026, 1574 revisited songs from Here in Skin, ١٥٧٤, and Touch Wood, arranging them into a continuous narrative centered on awakening.
AD / BC carries that same creative spirit forward by presenting songs that have been refined repeatedly over many years. Rather than treating previous recordings as finished destinations, Parabox Speekers continue to view them as living works that can develop alongside growing experience.
