Benny Mailman was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and served as a recon Marine in Okinawa, Japan before earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. He later built a successful career performing stand-up comedy and improvisation in Las Vegas, New York City, and Los Angeles. After completing his world journey, Benny moved to Cambodia, taught English at a university in Siem Reap, married his wife Vicheka in 2018, completed the first two books during the pandemic, and later returned to the United States in 2022. He finished the third book after leaving his role as editor of the Monroe County Herald in 2025.
