Jesica Oteruelo Lopez Shares an Intimate Path to Self-Awareness in ‘Ascending is Remembering’ and ‘Remembering Is Being’

Life can change direction through a single decision, a difficult experience, or a question that refuses to disappear. For Jesica Oteruelo Lopez, years of personal exploration eventually found their way onto the page.

Her books, Ascending is Remembering: A Journey Back to Yourself and Remembering Is Being: Releasing What You Believed and Discovering What You Are, form the opening two parts of a planned trilogy exploring identity, healing, awareness, and the experience of living more consciously.

When Experience Finds Its Way Into Writing

Jesica’s route toward becoming an author developed through a life filled with unexpected chapters. Born in the Basque Country, she opened her own business at nineteen and later experienced the demanding environment of leading a foundry as its only woman.

Personal challenges eventually encouraged deeper reflection. Travel followed, along with training in India, Thailand, and different parts of Europe. These experiences expanded Jesica’s interest in the relationship between the body, emotions, spirituality, and self-awareness.

Her journey eventually brought her to Lanzarote. She felt a powerful connection with the island and created a new life beside the Atlantic Ocean. Living there, including spending years aboard a boat, became intertwined with her personal practices and therapeutic work.

Sunrise ocean baths, Vipassana meditation, movement, barefoot walks, and periods of silence became familiar parts of her world. Over time, experiences that had once belonged entirely to her private journey developed into material she felt ready to share.

That process resulted in Ascending is Remembering.

The book combines memoir with spiritual inquiry and personal reflection. Across seven chapters, Jesica explores awakening, identity, separation, vulnerability, emptiness, compassion, and the experience of returning home to oneself.

Questions placed throughout the book invite readers to examine their own lives alongside her story. Jesica leaves space for individual discovery, encouraging readers to consider what their experiences may be trying to reveal.

Taking the Inner Journey Further

Remembering Is Being continues from a different stage of personal awareness. Here, Jesica explores what can happen after someone has recognized recurring patterns and started understanding the beliefs that have shaped their choices.

The book considers relationships, solitude, friendship, loss, identity, fear, and release. Its central inquiry reaches beneath familiar definitions of the self: What remains when someone begins letting go of everything they once believed they were?

Jesica brings that question into ordinary life. Inner work can appear during conversations, decisions, emotional reactions, friendships, and quiet moments when a familiar pattern becomes visible.

Seven chapters provide the structure for this exploration. The book also contains seven practical cards created to help readers translate reflection into embodied practice.

Together, the first two books follow a clear progression. Ascending is Remembering centers on recognizing the path back to oneself. Remembering Is Being explores the courage required to live according to what has been uncovered there.

Jesica is currently developing a third book that will continue this progression and complete the trilogy.

A Creative Life Rooted in Healing

Writing is one dimension of Jesica’s work. She is also a holistic therapist and the founder of Lavanda Zen Massage in Lanzarote, Spain.

Her professional practice includes intuitive massage, energy therapies, Bhakti Yoga, expressive movement, and energy harmonization. Some sessions even take place aboard her boat, where the surrounding ocean creates a distinctive environment for her therapeutic work.

Jesica’s relationship with writing grew gradually. For years, she questioned whether her experiences deserved to become a book. Eventually, she began writing about subjects that had shaped her own life, including guilt, silence, emotional wounds, personal expectations, healing, and the process of questioning old identities.

Leaving behind her previous life in the Basque Country became an important chapter in that evolution. She followed an intuition that something needed to change, traveled extensively, and ultimately established a new home in Lanzarote.

Her books grew from that accumulated experience. Their perspective reflects someone examining ideas through the reality of having lived with the questions herself.

Where the Journey Leads Next

Jesica’s first two books create an intimate conversation around remembering, releasing, and living with greater awareness. Each volume approaches personal discovery as an unfolding experience that continues through everyday life.

With the trilogy’s third installment now in development, Jesica’s literary journey is still evolving, carrying forward a central question that has shaped her work: what might someone discover when they finally look beneath everything they learned to believe about themselves?

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

My name is Jesica Oteruelo Lopez. I am an author, holistic therapist, and founder of Lavanda Zen Massage in Lanzarote, Spain. I offer intuitive massage and energy therapies, teach Bhakti Yoga and expressive movement, and facilitate energy harmonization sessions.

Part of my work takes place on my boat, a very special space where I offer massage and therapy sessions. Writing is another expression of my journey. After years of doubting whether my story was worth telling, I found the courage to write about life, healing, silence, guilt, hidden wounds, and the journey back to ourselves.

Please tell us about your journey.

I once had a home and business in the Basque Country, but something inside me was asking for change. I chose to leave, travel, and follow my intuition. That journey eventually brought me to Lanzarote, an island that still speaks to me every day.

Here I created a new life, bought a boat, developed my therapeutic work, and finally began writing. My experiences became Ascending is Remembering and later Remembering is Being, the first two books of a trilogy, with a third currently in development.

My journey has taught me that sometimes we find ourselves only after having the courage to leave behind what we thought we had to be.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Action. I make plans, but I trust my intuition. I have learned to believe in myself, face fear, take risks, make mistakes, and keep moving. If one path does not work, I choose another. Success, for me, is not about avoiding mistakes; it is about learning, adapting, and continuing.

Any message for our readers?

Life is beautiful, a gift and a blessing. One of our greatest freedoms is the freedom to choose. We cannot always choose what happens, but we can choose how we experience it.

Whatever moment you are living, be present. Choose your attitude, choose yourself, and trust your journey. Sometimes what we call a mistake today becomes something we understand very differently tomorrow.

Thank you so much, Jesica Oteruelo Lopez, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
