Why V.M. Nunez’s ‘Ash & Eternity’ Will Captivate Readers Who Crave Dark and Complicated Romance

What if the person appearing in someone’s dreams remembers a relationship that ended centuries ago? Ash & Eternity by V.M. Nunez begins with a young woman facing scarcity and soon carries her into a realm where love, magic, and memory refuse to obey the limits of one lifetime.

Lila lives in a dystopian world that’s steadily running out of essential resources. No new metals remain, while water, electricity, and food are carefully rationed. Every discovery can affect a family’s survival, so when Lila comes across a mysterious well, she believes she may have found additional water rations for the people she loves.

The truth is far more astonishing. The well is a portal, and stepping through it brings Lila into a feudal era ruled by immortal kings, dangerous creatures, and powers that her modern world had no reason to prepare her for.

Dreams That Belong to Another Lifetime

Long before discovering the portal, Lila has been troubled by dreams that feel borrowed from someone else. They show her impossible settings and forgotten kingdoms. Most unsettling of all is a pair of eyes that seems to know her intimately, even though she has no memory of the person behind them.

Once she enters the ancient realm, those dreams begin to look like fragments of a buried history. Lila learns that she has lived before and that her former identity was connected to extraordinary power. She is the reincarnation of a phoenix, a being associated with fire, death, and rebirth.

The discovery forces her to reconsider everything she understands about herself. Her memories may be incomplete, yet other people remember the life she lost. They have been carrying its promises, grief, and emotional wounds across the centuries.

V.M. uses this uneven knowledge to create suspense. Lila enters the world as a stranger, while powerful figures already have expectations for her. Each returning memory may reveal something valuable, though every answer could bind her more tightly to a destiny shaped before her current life began.

A Demon King, a Werewolf King, and One Unwritten Choice

At the center of Lila’s former life stands a love that ended before its story reached a true resolution. She once loved a king powerful enough to set the world on fire. Her death separated them, yet time failed to erase the connection.

Now, a ruthless Demon King remembers the woman he lost. His feelings have endured, taking on the intensity of an obsession that death itself could never silence. A fiercely loyal Werewolf King also believes Lila is his fated mate and would destroy kingdoms to keep her safe.

This romantic conflict gives the fantasy adventure an intimate emotional core. Both kings see Lila through the history they share with her, while she’s still discovering who she was and deciding who she wants to become. Their certainty makes her uncertainty even more meaningful.

Lila must determine how much power an earlier life should have over her present one. A promise made centuries ago may still carry emotional force, but she has returned as a woman with her own experiences, responsibilities, and desires. Her fate cannot be understood through recovered memories alone.

The danger around her continues to grow. An ancient darkness threatens to consume both worlds, connecting Lila’s personal search with a much larger crisis. The realm she has entered needs the strength associated with the phoenix, while the dystopian home she left behind remains filled with people she cares about.

These pressures create a heroine who has to look beyond the declarations of two powerful kings. Love may survive death in this world, though survival does not automatically resolve betrayal, longing, or conflicting loyalties. Lila’s final decision could restore an old bond, ignite a destructive rivalry, or open a future that no one else has imagined for her.
