A Writing Journey Inspired by Parenthood

The journey into writing began for Roan Miles in a deeply personal way. As a mother, she noticed a gap in the way children are taught about kindness. While the idea of being kind is encouraged everywhere, the nuances of when to step back or protect oneself are rarely discussed.

Roan Miles saw an opportunity to address this gap through storytelling. She wanted to give her children, and others, a way to understand that kindness should never come at the cost of self-worth. This realization became the foundation of her work.

Her stories are designed to reflect real-life situations that children may face. Instead of presenting overly simplified lessons, Roan Miles introduces thoughtful scenarios that encourage reflection. She writes in a way that feels approachable, allowing young readers to engage with important ideas without feeling overwhelmed.

Roan Miles also recognizes that these lessons are valuable for adults. Her writing creates space for parents to reflect alongside their children. It encourages shared learning, where conversations become just as important as the stories themselves.

The Heart Behind Mandy’s Gold

Roan Miles’s debut book, Mandy’s Gold, carries a message that is both gentle and powerful. The story centers around themes of kindness, friendship, and the importance of setting healthy boundaries. It invites readers to think about how relationships function and what it means to care for others while also caring for oneself.

Without giving away the storyline, the book explores how good intentions can sometimes lead to unexpected outcomes. This idea is presented in a way that feels accessible, allowing children to understand complex emotions through simple and relatable storytelling.

Mandy’s Gold is set to launch on May 1, 2026, and will be available on Amazon and roanmiles.com. The book is expected to resonate with families who are looking for meaningful content that goes beyond surface-level lessons.

Roan Miles uses this story as a starting point for deeper conversations. It encourages parents and children to talk openly about trust, respect, and personal boundaries. These discussions help build stronger connections within families, making the reading experience more interactive and lasting.

The book reflects Roan Miles’s belief that stories can guide children through situations they may not yet fully understand. By presenting these lessons early, she helps readers develop confidence and awareness in their relationships.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

My name is Roan Miles, and I’m a children’s book author based in Massachusetts, USA. I’m also a wife, a mother, and a full-time corporate professional. Alongside my husband, I co-run Miles Creek Farm, where we focus on simple living and serving our local community.

At heart, I’m a storyteller who writes books that help children and families navigate life lessons—especially around kindness, friendship, and learning how to set healthy boundaries.

Please tell us about your journey.

My journey into writing began at home, as a mom. I realized that while children are often taught to “be kind,” they’re not always taught what that truly means in real-life situations—especially when kindness is not returned or when boundaries are crossed.

I wanted to create stories that my own children could learn from—lessons that are usually learned later in life, sometimes through difficult experiences. Writing became a way for me to turn those lessons into something meaningful, accessible, and age-appropriate.

My book Mandy’s Gold was born from that intention—to spark conversations between parents and children about kindness, friendship, and understanding when it’s okay to say no.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

For me, success has come from staying grounded in purpose and authenticity. I didn’t start this journey to chase trends—I started it to solve a real need I saw in my own family.

Some key strategies that helped me:

Clarity of purpose: Knowing why I write and who I’m writing for

Consistency: Making progress even while balancing a full-time job and family life

Simplicity: Keeping my message clear and relatable for both children and parents

Community focus: Staying connected to real families and real conversations

Courage to share: Putting my work out there even when it felt personal

Any message for our readers

Kindness is powerful—but it should never come at the cost of your well-being. I hope both children and adults remember that it’s okay to be kind and have boundaries. Teaching this early can help prevent a lot of hurt later on.

If my stories can open even one meaningful conversation between a parent and a child, then I know I’m on the right path.

Thank you so much, Roan, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
