In ‘Beyond Limits’ and ‘Thistlegorm Expedition & Other Adventures,’ Dr. Rajarshi Pal Brings Distant Landscapes and Underwater History Within Reach of Every Curious Reader

Adventure can change the way a person sees risk, preparation, and the natural world. Across Beyond Limits and Thistlegorm Expedition & Other Adventures, Dr. Rajarshi Pal recounts true experiences from mountain trails, ancient sites, underwater caves, coral reefs, volcanic islands, and one of the world’s most significant wartime wrecks.

When the Landscape Sets the Challenge

The first instalment in the Beyond Limits series, Beyond Limits reached readers on August 20, 2026, with paperback and hardcover editions. The book moves between underwater exploration, cultural history, climbing, and mountaineering.

Cancún provides one of its most atmospheric settings, with submerged caves beneath a familiar surface. Cave diving places Dr. Rajarshi inside a restricted environment where darkness, rock, water, and silence define every decision. Progress depends on training, steady breathing, and close attention to equipment.

The book continues into the Red Sea, where coral reefs and abundant marine life create a more colourful underwater experience. Diving around Gozo introduces the distinctive geology of the Maltese archipelago. Its clear Mediterranean waters, caves, and dramatic formations give the journey a fresh rhythm.

Dr. Rajarshi also turns his attention towards the Maya civilisation. Ancient settlements and cultural traditions invite questions about how earlier communities understood time, belief, architecture, and the environment. This passage adds historical depth.

Pembrokeshire brings the action onto steep rock faces. Climbing its rugged cliffs calls for balance, endurance, and trust in learned techniques. Kilimanjaro then expands the scale of the challenge. The mountain’s altitude and changing terrain make each stage of the ascent a test of patience.

Through these varied chapters, Beyond Limits becomes a personal study of what happens when curiosity meets preparation. Every location offers its own lesson.

Thirty Metres Below the Red Sea

Thistlegorm Expedition & Other Adventures was published on August 7, 2026, and is available in Kindle, paperback, and hardcover editions. Its centrepiece is four dives on the SS Thistlegorm, a Second World War supply ship that now rests on the floor of the Red Sea.

Loaded with ammunition, rifles, military vehicles, motorbikes, and clothing, the ship left Glasgow to support Allied forces in North Africa. The dangers of the Mediterranean led it around Africa, past Cape Town, and northwards into the Red Sea. An accident that temporarily closed the Suez Canal forced the Thistlegorm to wait near Sha’ab Ali.

Two German bombers on patrol spotted the ship lying at anchor in 1941 and struck it. Explosions tore through the ship as its ammunition ignited. The Thistlegorm sank quickly, taking lives and military cargo into the depths. Jacques-Yves Cousteau later recovered artefacts from the wreck during the 1950s, and Israeli divers rediscovered it during the 1990s.

Dr. Rajarshi approaches this historic site through the full experience of an expedition. His account begins with a difficult drive to Bristol Airport, followed by a flight across Europe and the Mediterranean to Sharm El Sheikh. At the marina, he meets an international diving group, has his certification checked, inspects equipment, and attends safety briefings.

A first check dive prepares the team. Using Nitrox and following a descent rope, the divers move towards the wreck at approximately thirty metres. Pressure builds, daylight weakens, and the enormous shape emerges from the blue.

Torches illuminate artillery pieces, engines, broken masts, and machine guns. Coral has spread across the metal, while fish pass through the fractured structure. The scene carries life and loss in equal measure.

The book continues through the Bahamas, Rhodes, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife. Wrecks, sharks, reefs, Atlantic caves, volcanic beaches, cycling routes, ancient fortresses, and demanding hikes reveal how many forms a genuine adventure can take.
