From Meltdowns to Milestones—Alana Simpson’s Step by Step Stories for Everyday Challenges Shows the Way

Meeting Real-Life Challenges with Real-Life Solutions

Parenting isn’t always predictable. For parents of neurodivergent children, even everyday events—like getting dressed, heading to the doctor, or walking into a classroom—can feel like mountains to climb. That’s where Step by Step Stories for Everyday Challenges by Alana Simpson steps in. It’s a guide designed with empathy and experience, offering parents practical help when it’s needed most.

Alana Simpson Step by Step Stories 1This isn’t a one-size-fits-all parenting manual. Alana has crafted a resource that’s deeply personal and incredibly specific. It speaks directly to those tricky, often tear-filled moments that many families know all too well. Through the power of “social stories,” she provides simple yet powerful scripts that break tasks and transitions into bite-sized, understandable pieces. It’s about meeting children where they are—and helping them get to where they need to be with confidence and calm.

Social Stories: A Gentle Tool That Works Wonders

So what exactly are social stories? In this book, Alana walks parents through the concept in a way that’s approachable and encouraging. A social story is a short, descriptive narrative that explains a situation, skill, or concept in a way that makes sense to a child—especially one who struggles with unpredictability or new experiences.

Alana Simpson Step by Step Stories 2Rather than long explanations or abstract advice, these stories are written with clarity, repetition, and calm tone—designed to guide a child through things like visiting a new place or understanding what happens during a routine. Alana explains how to write these stories yourself, how to tailor them to your child’s specific needs, and when it’s time to adjust them as your child grows.

It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress. These stories give kids a structure they can hold onto when the world feels too big. And in turn, they give parents a way to communicate that feels doable—even during the tough times.

A Professional Who Gets It—and Shares It

Alana Simpson knows what she’s talking about. With a degree in sociology from Bowling Green State University and certifications in autism therapy, she’s spent years working with children in both home-based and educational settings. Her experience as a Behavioral Therapist—especially her work using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)—shapes the tools she shares in this book.

But beyond the qualifications, there’s a clear voice of compassion in her writing. She’s seen what works and what doesn’t. She’s sat beside overwhelmed parents and anxious children, helping them navigate everything from daily routines to big emotional moments. This isn’t theory. It’s real-life guidance from someone who’s been there—on the floor, in the car, at the appointment, helping families figure it out in real time.

Illustrations That Speak Louder Than Words

One of the most powerful elements of Step by Step is its use of illustrations. These aren’t just cute pictures—they’re vital communication tools. For children who rely more on visual learning or need cues that feel concrete, the book’s visuals make all the difference. Each story combines words and images in a way that helps children anticipate what’s coming and feel more at ease in the moment.

Whether it’s getting through a haircut, preparing for school drop-off, or learning to say “I need a break,” the stories in this book offer more than instructions—they offer reassurance. The illustrations help bring those messages home in a way words alone sometimes can’t.

From Struggles to Small Wins—Together

Alana wrote this book for a reason. She knows how intense those difficult moments can be. When your child is melting down and you’re running low on patience, it’s hard to feel like anything will work. That’s exactly why she created this resource—to be the thing you can reach for when nothing else seems to help.

Step by Step Stories isn’t just about fixing problems. It’s about building trust, creating understanding, and offering children the tools they need to succeed. And for parents, it’s about feeling less alone and more capable of helping your child grow—one manageable step at a time.

Clear, compassionate, and filled with tools that actually work, it’s a book that brings both hope and help to families who need it.
