Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Jean Motell, French author and artist. Let’s hear about his exciting journey!
Please tell us something about yourself.
I’m French, I write books, make music and experimental films. And I was a party crasher for 10 years in Paris and London (sneaked into 1000 events).
How did you get into what you do right now? Please tell us more about your journey.
By accident, because I love Champagne. I made a book about what I saw during cocktail receptions and the jet-set world “How To Make It When You’re Broke And Nobody,” and the game was launched.
Who are your role models?
Maybe Piero Manzoni, Giacomo Leopardi, Erik Satie & Jean-Edern Hallier.
What inspires you?
My family, small pleasures of life, and anecdotes.
Please tell us about your book.
Humor is a master key in my work, with a hint of poetry. For example, my last book in English (I write mainly in French) “The Smiley Dictionary For Old School Text Messages” is a collection of text designed smileys with humoristic explanations. In my books, music, or films, I want to mix lo-fi, alternative references, and humor.
What’s your most memorable experience?
The death of relatives. Because after, you want to live twice.
Which social media channels work best for promoting your work?
I use Instagram to search for emerging artists and models. Not really for my promotion.
What’s your greatest fear?
Death of people I love. And be an old jerk (I made a book in French about it “Journal d’ un vieux con”).
Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?
Believe in me.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Be open to any opportunities. And family.
What keeps you going when things get tough?
Family, always.
Any message for our readers.
If I can make it, you’ll make it.
How can people connect with you?
The best way, share a drink with me. Who knows, we already know each other 😉
