Today, we are interviewing Scott Levy, CEO/Founder of Boston based Fuel Online, one of the premier digital agencies in the world.
1. How did you get into what you do right now? Please tell us more about your journey?
I started doing SEO in 1997 when I was building my first dot com. I spent a lot of time deconstructing search results, which at the time were strictly “meta”. At the time, there were no guides or even defacto methods. I discovered certain keyword density by reverse engineering currently ranking sites. I was able to out-rank Yahoo in their own search engine for their own products at the time. That’s when my Digital Marketing agency Fuel Online was founded, and I’ve been involved in the space ever since.
2. What inspires you?
Making people feel good.
Doing what people say is impossible.
Being a thought leader and providing value to people.
3. Please tell us about your company.
Fuel Online is a full-service Boston SEO and digital marketing agency. We offer very high level performance & services such as SEO, SEM, SMM, Paid Media, Consulting, and more. We typically work with mid-sized to Fortune 500 companies, with aggressive budgets and enterprise ambitions. We only hire the best of the best, usually engineer level.
4. How are you using different social media channels/online marketing to market your work?
I’ve always believed in using social channels to provide value to people. Whether that’s tips, tricks, expert opinion, feedback, or just inspiration and motivation. When you build a relationship with people on social media in that capacity, you don’t have to sell. Establish yourself as an expert in your space by sharing some of what you know.
5. What’s your greatest fear?
Not having accomplished enough in my lifetime or contributing to society.
6. Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?
The life long commitment I’d be embarking on, the 18 hour days I’d work, and the passion I’d feel for what I do.
7. What are the success strategies/secrets that helped you in your journey?
Communication is key. I always make myself available to our clients, even as the CEO. I always try to promptly reply to emails, take calls, and get involved with strategy and or fires that need to be put out. I’m hands-on and believe it’s why we’ve been around for over 20 years.
8. How can people connect with you?
People can connect either via our website FuelOnline or through Twitter.
9. Any message for our readers…
In Business, Investing, etc. always look to provide value, solve problems, and make life better for people as we know it. But most of all, get up and go do it. We all have ideas every day; you tell your friends, family, etc. but most never take that leap of faith. Nobody will do it for you, just take the plunge.
