Today, we are interviewing Kitty Thee Madam, and she is the CEO of Madam Norma Jean gang (MNJgang). This is a luxury lifestyle gang, and all the products represent different cultures, worldwide sisterhood, beauty, love, and gangsta in all!!
How did you get into what you do right now? Please tell us more about your journey?
I used to be an L.A. gang member in the 90s and lost over 15 child friends to gang violence. These were smart, savvy, creative kids that just happen to be a part of a gang. I thought for many years about what my friends could have achieved if they were alive and had the opportunity to follow their dreams. What would that look, and from that, I launched MNJgang in 2009.
Who are your role models?
My role models are my grandmothers, these women are resilient and fearless.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by people who make something from absolutely nothing. The dreamers, the builders, the people who make it to the finish line without giving up. No matter what they encounter on the way.
Please tell us about what you do.
MNJgang is a luxury lifestyle gang, not a brand. I am selling luxury unisex apparel that has an L.A. street culture vibe.
I quickly realized that running a business, I was using a lot of what I had learned from gang culture; Structure, fearlessness, leadership, and hustle. And decided I will redefine what Gang culture looks like. I took anything negative out of it and created a gang the now represents positivity; Love, sisterhood, and brotherhood. Turning a negative past into a positive profitable future-MNJgang.
What’s your most memorable experience?
When I first started, I was asking for help on creating a brand and was told I’d never make it as a brand owner cause I was an ex-gang member. I remember thinking not only am I making it a gang, but I’m also going to tell my story my way, and I’m going to get rich doing it.
Which social media channels work best for promoting your work? What exactly do you do on the social media channel that makes it work for you?
Instagram is our go-to social media site for connecting with our customers. Our MNJgang Kittens are like rockstars on Instagram.
The MNJgang kittens are to us what the bunnies are to playboy. Digitally 6 stunning models from all parts of the globe that represent the gang.
What’s your greatest fear?
Honestly, I can’t think of anything I’m afraid of. I learned a long time ago that fear wasn’t real. So anything that possibly could scare me, I have changed my perspective on it. I’m probably afraid of a lot of things, but I have never allowed fear to stop me from anything, so… wait, I am afraid of flies.
Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?
I wish I would have understood the importance of having a team, a really strong team. I was waiting for years to assemble my team, and once I did, I don’t know how I ever worked without them.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Really connecting with our customers. I answer questions personally; customer service is Key. And being authentic in every aspect. We really listen to what our customers are saying to us. Adding value to their lives is our number one priority.
What keeps you going when things get tough?
I understand that I have an opportunity to create a gang that can change the world. At the very least, change my family’s world, that’s what keeps me going when things get tough. I found my purpose.
