Today, we are interviewing Fabio Gallozzi, an Electric Bass Player.
Fabio Gallozzi was born in Naples in 1983 and started playing electric bass at the age of 14. He started performing with local bands at the age of 15.
Soon he started playing from rock to pop, from blues to jazz through prog.
His curiosity led him to explore all types of music both as a musician and as a composer.
Fabio studied electric bass privately in Naples with Gianluigi Goglia and Lello Somma. In 2008 he moved to Milan and began playing with various local groups, studying with Claudio Signorini.
Over the years, he played at important events such as the Giffoni Music Concept in 2003 together with Punto.Com, a musical event within the Giffoni Film Festival, in front of 2000 people and opening the concert of the Jamaican singer Shaggy and artists such as Jorge Ben, Morgan, La Crus, Niccolò Fabi and Paola Turci.
Please tell us something about yourself.
I have participated in several festivals, always with the pop formation “Punto.Com,” including Castrocaro and Saint-Vincent.
I am currently the endorser of two great Italian excellences: Rigotti Cables, which produces fantastic cables (which I recommend to everyone), and Magrabó, which produces the most comfortable bass straps ever tested. It is 100% made in Italy craftsmanship.
How did you get into what you do right now? Please tell us more about your journey.
During my day, I always try to have a routine in the study of the electric bass. A musician is like a sportsman, if he doesn’t train then he won’t win the races!
What inspires you?
It depends, if I talk about being genius and unpredictability, surely all of us bass players must be inspired by Jaco Pastorius. My idols are Marcus Miller for his musicality and Francis Hylton for the groove.
Please tell us about your music.
I started playing early, and over time I had many experiences with many different musical genres. I can say that I like all kinds of music, the one which is done well obviously! I try to be an essential bass player, my role is to be at the band’s service.
What’s your most memorable experience?
Definitely, the experience at the Giffoni Music Concept (organized by the Giffoni Film Festival) is my most memorable experience. I was little more than a kid, and I went on stage by opening the concert of Shaggy, an artist with millions of copies sold!
Which social media channels work best for promoting your work? What exactly do you do on the social media channel that makes it work for you?
Being a musician, I say that Youtube works to show my videos in the hall and in concerts. While I use Instagram mainly to capture photos that talk about me, music, and my everyday life.
What’s your greatest fear?
My biggest nightmare is that I can’t play anymore .. but as a superstitious Neapolitan, it’s better that I don’t even talk about it! :).
Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?
When you take the instrument for the first time, you have the presumption to select and play only “good” music. I learned over time that each artist has his own story and ideas … There is no perfect and universal music. There is only music played well, and music played badly … or even not played by humans! :).
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Listening to many songs by artists from different cultures, letting myself be carried away by the notes and enjoying the moment. During the day, you have to study study study, and when you are not studying, at least you have to learn new songs, famous bass rides or focus on sound research.
What keeps you going when things get tough?
When you go through an unhappy moment, you just have to think that you are doing what you love most: play! It’s a privilege! The important thing is to look ahead and still think about how far there is to go!
