We had the pleasure of interviewing Javi Carabali. Here are the excerpts from the interview.
Hi Javi, Great to have you with us today! Please share with our readers about what it is that you do.
Hi, thank you so much for inviting me. I am an electric guitarist, rhythmic vocalist, and music producer. I play not only guitar but also Latin percussion (congas), electric bass, and piano/keyboards.
Please tell us more about your journey.
I first started out as a lyricist and producer on the hip-hop scene and was influenced by hip-hop legends such as The Fugees, A Tribe Called Quest, Jay-Z, The Roots, and Nas. I was also an avid listener of reggae/dancehall and Latin music, and my biggest influences in those genres are Bob Marley, Sean Paul, and Carlos Santana. Although I was very into hip-hop, I was inspired by Marley, Santana, and even Wyclef Jean to start playing guitar while I was in high school. A few years later, I was offered a hip-hop record deal, but I turned it down. I eventually ventured more into blues, reggae, and Latin music.
Please share with our readers about your music album, Melodías De Navidad.
Melodías De Navidad is my Christmas album release for this year, and it is a fusion of blues, rock, reggae, salsa, and Afro-Colombian rhythms. I played all of the instruments on all of the songs.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
I studied the different Latin and African rhythms from around the world, from Cuba, to Brazil, to Colombia, to Sierra Leone. Aside, from the electric guitar, I also studied and took lessons to learn how to play piano, acoustic guitar, electric bass, and congas. I was also taught music production and audio engineering by my uncle, who was a DJ and a singer for an R&B band back in the days. I continue studying constantly and learning new things each day. I'm a student of life, and knowledge is empowering.
Any message for our readers.
My next album in early 2023 will have much more dancehall, reguetón, and R&B influences. This Christmas album was mainly a tribute to the folkloric music of Latin America and the Caribbean. However, the next album, which will be titled ‘Latin Sol,‘ will have much more dance music and even some ‘Motown en Español', hence the name of the album.
So, tell us, how can people find out more about you?
Thank you so much, Javi, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
