Today, we are interviewing Spifflorde. The rapper is known for his 2019 hit single What I Tell Y’all’. The single has a playful melody, multiple voice fx and a legendary and distinctive flow. The lyricism is authentic and flows like magic.
Spifflorde’s native place is Philadelphia. He seeks to astound and take his audience through a boom bastic experience. Not limited to any genre, Spifflorde experiments with funk and soul elements combined with crisp 808s and snares, as well as live drums to create sonic masterpieces.
Spiff is in the workings to release his first LP, “Velvet Dreamz”.
1. How did you get the name Spifflorde?
“I got the name for my refined dress styles. I’ve always been into independent thought and individuality, and the dress style I display is no exception to this thinking. My friends all know how I am, so they would often call me spiff, and it stuck, to be honest. In reality, I added the Lorde because of the definition of the lord in the dictionary, it had a profound meaning to me, and it just sounds cool.”
2. How did you get into music and animation?
“Many reasons. I was always a creative individual, and I’ve been drawing since I was two years old. Drawing became my first passion. I can remember drawing anything I saw that was interesting, including comics, people, and my thoughts. I was born in the nineties and came up in a wonderful time for art, that truly was animations golden era! My second passion was music, man I couldn’t stop listening to it! The muses guided me sonically, and since I’ve never sent them away. I swear I have these eargasms, and I can’t stop having them in search of creating or hearing the perfect bridge! This true passion for creativity is what got me into music and animation.”
3. What inspires you?
“Usually, while I’m creating animations, I’m watching Kobe Bryant highlights, along with Jordan highlights. Next, I’ll listen to their interviews to grasps what it takes to be great, which is sacrifice and determination. That gets me going immediately! Yet, what really inspires me is the lack of time we are given to be great in this lifetime. We all have gifts and talents and are very much able to be great, but it’s almost like God gives us this divine insight, and it’s up to us to follow the visions or let them slip away. So I would say striving for greatness and beating life’s shot clock inspires me.”
4. What artist would you like to work with the most dead or alive?
“I would probably say Lucifer. I’m not a Satanist or devil worshipper, nor am I in the occult. It’s just when you talk about the greatest artist of all time, he has influenced every genre. He was an angel in heaven who was appointed the lead musician. God literally made him for music, but I would want to work with him pre-fall from heaven, though. His music probably has a different undertone now and is probably more diabolical.”
5. What keeps you going when you have doubt?
“Comedy, and I know that may seem unrelated. Yet comedians are mentally sound people, maybe more than we realize. It takes courage to tell the truth. And to project your thoughts on strangers that you hope will receive your thought process and content. If I’m feeling down, I’m watching Loiter Squad, The Office, Hannibal, Chapelle, and Russel Peters. Not In that particular order, but I love to laugh, and if I’m happy, how can I be sad? Once I go through my YouTube binge, I’m just on social media giggling at memes. Usually, by the time I’m done, all doubt is removed. I equate doubt with progress; people usually slow down at the finish line, yet the race isn’t over. It’s so close but not done, it just means there is a breakthrough coming from God who is just testing us to see if we want it or we want to miss the blessing. Doubt is a Checkpoint in life’s race and an overall phase, but we all have to get past it to be great.”
6. What are the success strategies that helped you through your journey?
“Mainly realizing that who I surround myself with will impact me regardless of positive or negative. Once I set my goals, I distance myself from anyone or anything not conducive to me, achieving them. This can be old friends, women, people who aren’t serious about anything or who have no goals themselves, and haters. This allows me to navigate effortlessly; most people don’t progress because they can’t discern to let these things go that hold them back. I would say the most important key in my success strategy is my hunger for knowledge. This journey I embark on has endless hours of reading, I put the time in to gain the information I need being an independent artist. It’s essential and similar to having an open book test with the answers In front of you.”
7. What’s your most memorable experience?
“As related to music, I would say back when I did my Highschool open mic. I used all my courage to get on that stage. A fire inside me forced me to do it, and I couldn’t back out. There were things I needed to say, and people needed to hear, and so I just looked off into the crowd. People were talking, laughing, and being obnoxious, but then I spoke. Instant silence, I never felt so much power people listening to my every word attentively. That let me know I should continue on this path. I realized then I was not a follower, but a leader and people would listen to me.”
8. What’s your greatest fear?
“My greatest fear is God taking my time away. I don’t fear death itself. Yet, now I do have a clear goal and purpose along with insight, I want to share my creations with the world. Every true artist knows the greatest works take time, and I want God to afford me the time to be able to create my best works.”
9. Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you got started?
“Well I would say I wish I understood how distribution worked coming in the game, I would have put my content in front of more people faster.”
10. How can people connect with you?
“Through social media and YouTube, and my handle is the same @Spifflorde across all platforms.”
