Some albums are designed around a single theme, while others feel like a gallery of moments collected over time. Fresh, the latest project from Bay Area artist Israel Michael, belongs to the second category. The album brings together songs inspired by different stages of life, personal reflections, creative experiments, and artistic growth.
With influences drawn from alternative music, rock, hip-hop, and instrumental composition, Fresh avoids predictable boundaries. Instead, it embraces individuality, allowing every track to tell its own story while contributing to a larger narrative. The result is an album that feels honest, expressive, and deeply connected to the person behind it.
Exploring the World of Fresh
At its core, Fresh is a collection of songs that reflect years of experiences and observations. Rather than following one musical formula, Israel Michael approaches each track as its own creative universe. This gives the album a sense of movement and discovery from beginning to end.
Listeners are introduced to a diverse lineup that includes Heart Farewell, Banana Cream, Flossin’, 000, Rosewood Forest, Magnificent, Myself, Midnight, Sayoko, Diamond Echo, Monarch, Fallen Angel, Hysteria, Tidal (Instrumental), Loyal Tea (Instrumental), and Babygirl (Instrumental).

The variety of titles reflects the album’s wide emotional and stylistic range. Some songs invite listeners into thoughtful and reflective spaces. Others offer energy, imagination, or pure musical exploration. The instrumental tracks provide additional depth, demonstrating that compelling stories can be communicated through sound alone.
What makes the project particularly engaging is its sense of authenticity. Every track feels connected to real experiences rather than manufactured concepts. There is a natural quality to the album that allows listeners to form their own interpretations while still sensing the artist’s personal presence throughout the work.
An Artist Built on Dedication and Independence
Israel Michael’s creative path began in Oakland, California, a city that continues to influence his artistic identity. Known to friends as Izzy, he developed a love for music during high school and that sparked a lifelong pursuit of artistic expression.
His early learning process involved studying and performing songs by influential rock bands such as the Ramones, The White Stripes, and Led Zeppelin. Over time, he expanded his musical knowledge by examining the techniques of legendary artists including Prince, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, and Jimmy Page.
Those influences helped shape his understanding of musicianship, yet Israel never aimed to imitate anyone. Instead, he used those lessons as building blocks to create a sound that reflected his own perspective and experiences.
Today, he takes pride in being a completely self-made artist. He composes, produces, records, mixes, and masters all of his music independently. That level of creative control allows him to preserve the authenticity that defines his work. For Israel, every release serves as a direct extension of his artistic vision.
His approach to songwriting remains refreshingly straightforward. He creates music that he personally finds beautiful. Some songs embrace humor and playfulness. Others explore heavier subjects and emotional realities. Through it all, he remains committed to honesty and self-expression.
A Mission That Extends Beyond Music
While music is central to Israel Michael’s life, his impact reaches far beyond the recording studio. During college, where he studied jazz and classical music theory, he also pursued a career in education. His passion for helping young people led him to teach mathematics at both public and private schools throughout the Bay Area.
Working with students gave him an opportunity to contribute directly to his community. Helping young people understand academic requirements and prepare for future educational opportunities became a meaningful part of his journey.
His commitment to uplifting others is also reflected in his role as co-owner of Haphazardous Records. Through the label, he seeks to create opportunities for local artists and bring attention to underground musicians whose work deserves greater recognition. His vision centers on collaboration, empowerment, and community growth.
One experience, in particular, reinforced his belief in the power of music. A friend once shared that one of his songs had helped save their life. That conversation became a defining moment. It showed him that music can provide hope, encouragement, and healing in ways that extend far beyond entertainment.

We had the privilege of interviewing the artist. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
“I am Israel Michael, my friends call me Izzy. I create music that I find beautiful. Sometimes my music is silly, sometimes it’s too serious for others to handle, and that’s okay. My message is true. I composed, created, produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered all of the songs I’ve released so far.”
Please tell us about your journey.
“I learned guitar during high school when my close friends handed me a guitar from their music class. I started with Ramones, White Stripes and Led Zeppelin covers. I studied Prince, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, and Jimmy Paige’s solos and kind of made my own sound from there. I care very much about helping out the youth of Oakland, so I decided to pursue a career in education while studying jazz and classical music theory in college. I used to teach mathematics to the youth of the Bay Area at public and private schools. Helping students understand their requirements to be eligible to attend UC and CSU made me feel like I was making a difference in the Bay. While playing my guitar, a friend of mine told me that my song saved their life. It was at that moment I knew I had to keep making music. Like… my music prevented suicide, and because of that, there is new life growing up to this day. I know my music will continue to inspire others to pursue their dreams and create art.”
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
“Practice is everything. If I’m not practicing guitar, I’m practicing lyrics. I’ve kept my eyes on the pages of my books, I stay friendly and keep it real with those who are real with me. I was lucky enough to be gifted with a musical mindset, and I have the patience to take music that I hear and feel within myself and create it. I am thankful for my family and friends. Strategy also isn’t everything – I was lucky enough to have the support of my family and friends. Especially my mom, dad, and Nana.”
Any message for our readers?
“Love yourself, love each other, stop causing pain to others. Also, support REAL art, not AI.”
