Marco De Luca’s ‘LA STAGIONE DECISIVA‘ brings together songs from different stages of his creative life while giving them a unified new identity. Released on March 31, 2024, the eight-track album finds the Italian singer-songwriter leaning further into keyboards and psychedelic rock while using his music to examine exclusion, prejudice, media culture, and people pushed toward the margins of society.
A Record Built Around Change
‘LA STAGIONE DECISIVA’ arrives as the fourth album in De Luca’s catalog, following ‘STANZE REMOTE,’ ‘DUE,’ and ‘Canzoni Inedite.’ His earlier releases moved through experimental new wave, pop-oriented arrangements, and a more traditional singer-songwriter direction. This album expands that journey again, with keyboards appearing across every track and playing a much larger role in the overall sound.
That increased keyboard presence gives the record a more psychedelic atmosphere than much of De Luca’s previous work. His earlier music often placed guitars at the center, particularly during periods when darker and new wave influences were more prominent. Here, the instrumentation creates a different kind of space around the songs, allowing the material to feel broader and more atmospheric while still retaining the songwriting character that has followed him throughout his solo career.

Part of the album also reaches back to De Luca’s years with Sine, the group he performed with until around 2000. ‘VIDEOSPAZZATURA,’ ‘IL MOSTRO,’ and ‘UN UOMO GENTILE’ all originated in that period. For ‘LA STAGIONE DECISIVA,’ they were rearranged and revisited so their sound would connect naturally with five unreleased songs, bringing older compositions into the same musical environment as his newer writing.
Protest Songs With Human Stories at Their Center
The album’s social concerns appear from its opening moments. ‘VIDEOSPAZZATURA,’ or ‘VIDEO TRASH,’ addresses television programming that turns suffering into spectacle and uses people’s pain as a way of attracting viewers. The subject establishes a critical tone early, directing attention toward how uncomfortable experiences can become entertainment when audiences and ratings take priority.
‘IL MOSTRO,’ translated as ‘THE MONSTER,’ looks at another troubling social pattern. Its subject centers on fear created by ignorance toward people who are considered different and how that fear can contribute to racism. De Luca approaches the issue through songwriting rather than abstract commentary, allowing the theme to become part of the emotional landscape of the record.
Elsewhere, ‘LA FESTA,’ or ‘THE PARTY,’ focuses on a young girl who is mocked and excluded by her peers. ‘ALLA DERIVA,’ meaning ‘ADRIFT,’ turns toward forgotten people living on the margins and gradually becoming disconnected from the wider community. Alongside ’15 ANNI,’ ‘UN UOMO GENTILE,’ ‘ASPIRANTI MODELLE,’ and ‘IL GIORNO,’ these tracks give the album a strong sense of social observation and concern for experiences that can easily remain unseen.
About the Artist
Marco De Luca is a singer-songwriter from Atri in the province of Teramo, Italy. He began making music in the 1990s with Sine, performing original songs as well as covers of The Cure, whose music became an important influence. After the group separated at the beginning of the 2000s, he continued independently and devoted more of his attention to writing and recording.
In 2006, De Luca released ‘STANZE REMOTE,’ an experimental self-produced album created entirely in his home studio and shaped by 1980s new wave sounds. The 2008 EP ‘DUE’ involved additional musicians and moved toward a more open pop style, with De Luca contributing vocals, guitars, and computer arrangements. ‘Canzoni Inedite’ followed in 2012, collecting material written across different periods and presenting a stronger singer-songwriter character.
A Collection That Connects Different Eras
‘LA STAGIONE DECISIVA‘ feels closely connected to Marco De Luca’s history while still introducing a distinct musical direction. Reworked songs from his Sine years sit beside newer compositions, and the expanded role of keyboards gives the album a cohesive psychedelic rock edge.
With its focus on social isolation, racism, media exploitation, and overlooked lives, the record carries a clear sense of purpose. It also shows an artist continuing to revisit his past material while finding new ways to express the concerns and ideas that shape his songwriting.
