10-Year-Old Author Makiz Orokzai Shines With the Heartwarming Friendship Adventure “Bloom Squad”

A summer with best friends can become a collection of memories that lasts for years. For Amba, Sunny, Lisa, and Starla, that summer arrives with flowers to water, a business to build, plenty of boba tea, and news that could change their friendship forever.

In Bloom Squad, 10-year-old author Makiz Orokzai turns those experiences into a cheerful and heartfelt debut novel about friendship, creativity, growing up, and finding ways to handle unexpected change.

Welcome to the Bloom Squad

Amba believes she has the greatest group of friends in the world. Together with Sunny, Lisa, and Starla, she spends her days drawing, admiring beautiful flowers, and drinking sweet boba tea. The four girls are close, creative, and happiest when they’re together.

Flowers hold a special place in their shared interests, although there’s a frustrating problem. None of them are allowed to keep flowerpots at home.

Life in Critter City seems comfortable until Amba’s parents deliver surprising news. The family is moving to Fountain City. Amba immediately realizes that her remaining time with her friends is limited, turning an ordinary summer into something much more significant.

Determined to fill those final weeks with memories, the girls come up with a plan. They’ll start a flower watering business together. Soon, they have a name that perfectly fits their new mission: the Bloom Squad.

What begins as a fun idea develops into an adventure filled with responsibilities, unusual customers, unexpected discoveries, and plenty of opportunities for the four friends to test their teamwork.

They encounter spooky houses where spiders crawl across doorbells. Some yards feature eye-catching neon pink plastic flamingos. The friends even hold a massive yard sale and experience the excitement of earning money through their own efforts.

Every new assignment gives the girls another story to share.

A Friendship Tested by Change

The Bloom Squad might have matching ambitions and plenty of enthusiasm, yet running their new venture brings some difficult moments. Emotions become stronger as Amba’s moving date gets closer.

A disagreement involving a water sprinkler becomes especially serious. The argument creates tension inside the group and threatens the club they’ve worked so enthusiastically to build.

Young readers may recognize the intensity of these moments. Friendships during childhood can become a major part of daily life, and disagreements can feel enormous when they happen. Add an approaching goodbye, and even a small conflict can carry additional emotional weight.

Makiz brings those feelings into the story through situations that remain accessible to younger readers. Tears, laughter, business ideas, secret apple pies, flower watering, and friendship troubles all become part of the same eventful summer.

There’s also an important question running through the adventure. With Amba preparing to leave Critter City, will the four girls repair their friendship before the moving truck arrives?

That question gives the story emotional momentum while allowing its characters to explore what being a good friend can really mean.

Creativity, Growing Up, and Finding Your Place

One of the appealing qualities of Bloom Squad is the way imagination becomes part of everyday life. The girls sketch ideas for uniforms, create their own business, visit unusual homes, organize a yard sale, and approach their summer with the excitement of children building something entirely their own.

The flower watering concept also connects naturally with the book’s larger theme of growth. Amba’s circumstances are changing, and she has to discover how to move forward while appreciating the friendships that helped shape her life in Critter City.

Through the girls’ experiences, the novel touches on teamwork, responsibility, communication, entrepreneurship, separation, and adapting to a new chapter. These ideas emerge through an adventure centered on characters who are still figuring things out together.

Bloom Squad is available in Kindle, paperback, and hardcover editions, giving families and young readers several ways to discover the story.
