The Terrifying Price of Being Different

In Fellitair, belonging to the wrong bloodline can mean a death sentence. The kingdom operates under the authority of the Blood Queen, an Immortal ruler who considers those without her ancestry inferior. Her determination to preserve Immortal dominance has created a society where fear influences everyday life. Humans endure harsh treatment, while individuals carrying both human and Immortal blood face relentless persecution. Published by ZuFaeSki Books, with the 322-page print edition out on November 1, 2026, the book is available in Kindle, Paperback and Hardcover editions on Amazon.

The treatment of half-bloods reveals the disturbing extent of the Queen’s cruelty. Some are hunted and killed, while others experience a fate known as becoming Harrows. This transformation strips victims of their independence, leaving their bodies functioning without personal will. Such frightening consequences establish the urgency surrounding the resistance movement and explain why escaping Fellitair becomes a matter of survival for so many families.

Against this oppressive background, readers encounter Soul, who awakens in chains after being sold into slavery. Her arrival in Fellitair leads her directly into the royal household, where she receives a different identity and begins serving as an attendant. The unfamiliar surroundings demand constant vigilance, especially because the people controlling her circumstances possess considerable power. Every new discovery reveals another layer of danger within the kingdom.

Soul’s assignment to the Queen’s brother introduces one of the story’s most unpredictable relationships. The Prince serves as his sister’s trusted assassin and possesses a reputation that terrifies the fortress attendants. His previous servant was killed, leaving Soul’s fellow workers deeply concerned about her prospects. Understanding his moods and navigating his expectations becomes an immediate challenge that requires patience, observation, and considerable courage.

As Soul adjusts to her dangerous position, she begins recognizing the importance of appearances within the fortress. Characters conceal their intentions behind practiced expressions, while seemingly ordinary conversations may contain information capable of changing lives. Her growing awareness helps her identify potential allies and understand the complicated relationships surrounding the royal family. These developments create an engaging atmosphere of suspense, encouraging readers to examine each character’s motivations.

Beyond the fortress, another struggle is unfolding through the efforts of the Shadows, a clandestine organization helping persecuted half-bloods escape. Its members risk capture while arranging dangerous journeys across the border into Tisia. Their willingness to protect vulnerable strangers demonstrates the compassion still alive within Fellitair after years of oppression. Soul’s connection with this resistance gradually gives her a meaningful role in the kingdom’s uncertain future.

From Forgotten Prisoner to a Symbol of Hope

Perhaps the novel’s most intriguing development concerns Soul’s connection to Haven, a mysterious location regarded by many as a fictional place. She already knew she was a Fated, and Soul’s arrival in Fellitair carries extraordinary purpose and profound implications for the kingdom. The prophecy surrounding her suggests extraordinary possibilities, including the liberation of those suffering under the Blood Queen. Her influence could also trigger devastating consequences if events unfold disastrously.

This uncertainty adds emotional weight to Soul’s decisions as she becomes increasingly involved in challenging the kingdom’s rulers. Her actions eventually provoke the Queen, who sentences her to the pits, an unforgiving environment where prisoners fight to the death. Surviving these brutal circumstances requires Soul to discover reserves of determination she may never have realized she possessed. Her experiences also bring her closer to others who desperately need someone willing to challenge their captors.

Inside the violent pits, Soul becomes an influential figure among the prisoners. Her growing popularity surprises the Queen and creates opportunities for organized resistance. With assistance from the Shadows operating outside, she works toward securing freedom for those trapped alongside her. The unfolding struggle raises difficult questions about responsibility, sacrifice, and the consequences of becoming someone others depend upon.

We had the privilege of interviewing Theo Jaeger. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Thank you so much for joining us today! Could you please introduce yourself and tell us what you do?

I’m Theo Jaeger and I work with dogs. I do dog grooming and boarding.

Could you tell us the story or journey behind your work?

I’ve always enjoyed reading, especially fantasy. I was always a quiet kid and didn’t have much for friends. Reading was an escape from this world. Who wouldn’t want to visit other worlds? I’m sure some people won’t understand it, though there are those who will, but books are friends. They’re full of people who will never leave and will always stay the same as the first time you met them. I realized I could create that. I could make those worlds for people to escape to. That’s why I write.

What strategies or principles have helped you?

Unfortunately for me, I don’t have any strategies. My brain never shuts off and rarely ever stays focused on something for long. Before I’ve finished one story, my brain is already writing others. I’m too busy fighting to keep my brain focused to actually have any sort of strategy. I just go for things and hope for the best.

What is your message for readers?

If you’re looking for a different world to escape to for a bit, give my book Darkness and Light a chance.

Thank you so much, Theo, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
