Beau Lemmerman’s ‘Heretical Talk’ Explores How One Person’s Suffering Echoes Across Generations and Dimensions

Some horror stories frighten readers through what appears in the darkness. Others create fear by questioning everything people trust about existence, faith, and the universe around them.

Heretical Talk by Beau Lemmerman enters that unsettling territory through six connected tales spanning several decades. A cursed killer, wounded survivors, hidden dimensions, and ancient creatures come together in a novel where every answer seems to uncover an even more disturbing mystery.

A Killer Whose Words Outlive His Crimes

Needless is far more than the serial killer linking the book’s characters. His conversations leave lasting marks on those who survive him. The victims carry his heretical ideas long after their encounters, and the damage influences the choices they make throughout their lives.

Many of them attempt to rebuild their connection with God. Their search leads toward a terrifying void inhabited by monsters and forces older than human understanding. This spiritual journey gives the novel an emotional foundation while its paranormal events steadily expand in scale.

The story moves across six decades, allowing each period to reveal another part of Needless’ mysterious legacy. Readers meet characters separated by time, professions, and personal histories. Their experiences gradually form a larger account of trauma spreading through lives that appear distant from one another.

One 1984 story follows a retired trucker traveling with his estranged teenage son. Their country road trip offers them an opportunity to face their troubled relationship. The journey brings them to Umbra Island, an isolated location that hides an ancient species of demons beneath its calm surroundings. Survival soon depends on whether father and son can overcome the distance between them.

A second tale set in 1984 unfolds within a mental institution. A young orphaned patient forms an unlikely partnership with an imprisoned Needless. Together, they must confront a demon roaming the asylum and a dangerous doctor whose history connects him to both the creatures and the killer.

Different Eras Reveal a Growing Nightmare

In 1964, a biker gang known as The Needless stands between a small town and a shapeshifting predator. The demon wears human skin, making appearances dangerously unreliable. These outcasts become unexpected protectors as the creature hunts among the people around them.

The 1974 segment turns toward religion through the story of a former drug addict who is training to become a nun. Her developing faith gives her hope for a different life. That hope is shaken when Needless comes to her for confession and shares disturbing truths about the world she believes she understands.

By 1994, the horror has entered the field of quantum physics. A survivor of an earlier Needless attack has become a physicist while continuing to live with PTSD. He discovers a mathematical equation capable of accessing a dimension older than the known universe. Opening it releases chaos inside his research facility and transforms an intellectual breakthrough into a threat against reality itself.

The scope expands again in 2004. Another traumatized survivor becomes an astronaut because he wants to feel closer to Heaven. From a satellite station, he watches a nuclear holocaust set Earth ablaze. The scene combines personal devastation with worldwide destruction, placing one wounded individual above a planet experiencing its final nightmare.

Each timeline carries its own setting and source of fear. Together, the six accounts explore the lasting effects of violence, the fragility of belief, and the human desire to find meaning after unbearable experiences. Beau uses these connections to build suspense while revealing the hidden history surrounding Needless piece by piece.

Readers’ Favorite awarded Heretical Talk five stars, and critics have called the book “Unsettling. Unhinged. And just plain brilliant.” Heretical Talk contains elements of supernatural mystery and tells a gritty story filled with psychological dread. It’s a story where the poetic brutality of Cormac McCarthy meets the visceral, reality-bending horror of Clive Barker.

The novel is available through major retailers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Google Play Books, and Ingram.
