‘Fatal Instant: The Lies Have Begun’ by Deivy Garrido Turns Every Heartbeat Into a Race Against Time

A serious heart condition has taught Adam Crow that tomorrow can never be treated as a promise. His carefully managed life becomes even more uncertain when romance, old memories, and unsettling family secrets begin pulling him toward truths he may be unprepared to face.

In Fatal Instant: The Lies Have Begun, Deivy Garrido combines young adult romance with mystery and emotional suspense. The result is a personal story about living with uncertainty while forming connections powerful enough to change the future.

What Lies Beneath an Ordinary Life

From the outside, Adam appears to be another young man trying to manage classes, relationships, and family expectations in Seattle. His daily routine, however, is governed by medication and the knowledge that his heart could fail at any moment.

The condition affects far more than his physical health. It shapes the way he thinks about time, personal responsibility, and the possibility of building a meaningful future. Every choice carries additional weight because Adam understands how quickly his circumstances could change.

His family provides familiarity, yet their behavior leaves him with growing doubts. Important information appears to have been withheld, and the explanations he receives rarely offer complete reassurance. As questions accumulate, Adam starts realizing that the people he trusts may have constructed a safer version of the truth around him.

Deivy uses this uncertainty to create a tense emotional atmosphere. The danger does not always announce itself clearly. It emerges through incomplete conversations, difficult memories, and moments when affection becomes entangled with fear.

Two Encounters Change the Direction of Everything

Adam’s path shifts when two significant figures enter his life. Alice returns as a powerful reminder of the past. Her presence brings unresolved feelings back to the surface and creates questions about experiences Adam believed were already behind him.

Janet Carristong arrives with an entirely different energy. Fierce, challenging, and difficult to predict, she refuses to fit comfortably into anyone’s expectations. Her strength immediately captures Adam’s attention, although her guarded nature suggests that she carries private struggles of her own.

As their relationship develops, Janet helps Adam experience a closeness that once seemed beyond his reach. He begins to understand the excitement of being seen by another person, along with the vulnerability that comes from allowing someone access to his deepest fears.

For Adam, falling in love involves risks that feel intensely real. He must speak honestly about his health, accept that another person may become emotionally invested in an uncertain future, and decide whether trust is possible when so much of his life appears to be surrounded by secrets.

The romantic connection gives the story tenderness, while its mystery keeps the emotional stakes high. Love may offer Adam a new reason to embrace life. It may also lead him toward betrayals and revelations capable of reshaping everything he knows.

More Than a Story of Young Romance

Friendship and loyalty are central to the novel’s emotional world. Adam’s experience shows how supportive relationships can provide strength during periods of fear, while misplaced trust can deepen an already painful situation.

The characters are allowed to be imperfect. They make emotional decisions, conceal their wounds, and sometimes struggle to communicate what they genuinely need. These qualities make their experiences approachable for readers who understand how complicated affection and loyalty can become.

The novel also invites reflection on the value of the present. Adam’s health prevents him from assuming that opportunities can always be postponed. Conversations, friendships, and moments of affection take on greater meaning when time feels limited.

Deivy brings suspense into these themes through buried truths and uncertain motivations. The story can move from an intimate exchange to a disturbing discovery, allowing its romantic and thriller elements to support the same central question: how can someone live openly when the truth remains hidden?

Through Adam and Janet’s evolving connection, Deivy offers an affecting reminder that courage can begin with trusting someone, facing the truth, and valuing the time that remains.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

I’m Deivy Garrido, a Venezuelan-Argentine accountant and writer. My literary journey began after I went viral on Twitter in 2013. In 2014, I started developing Muerte Súbita. Its first installment, Fatal Instant, tells the story of Adam Crow, a man facing a heart condition while discovering love with Janet Carristong, an untamable woman who changes his life.

Please tell us about your journey.

My journey is also a story of resilience and migration. Leaving Venezuela and building a new life in Argentina exposed me to different realities, challenges, and experiences that became sources of literary inspiration. These experiences helped shape the Fatal Instant saga, where emotions, human relationships, and the strength to keep moving forward play a central role.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Twitter played a key role in introducing my work to readers. In 2015, I shared a couple of chapters of Fatal Instant there and connected with people who became interested in the story. Social media allowed me to share my writing directly, build a community, and discover that a story can find its readers when you dare to put it out into the world.

Any message for our readers.

I would love for readers to give Adam Crow’s story a chance. I invite them to discover an adventure filled with genuine friendship, loyalty, and camaraderie, featuring human, imperfect characters who evoke real emotions. I hope they find something in these pages that moves them and stays with them long after they finish reading.

Thank you so much, Deivy, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
