For generations, women have entered menopause with limited information about how it can affect sexuality, pleasure, confidence, and relationships. Many have quietly carried questions that felt too personal, embarrassing, or complex to discuss.
Sexy Menopause: The New Science and Soul of Midlife Desire by Lisa Fitzpatrick creates space for those conversations. Arriving in October 2026, the book presents menopause as a meaningful transition that can lead women toward greater self-knowledge, stronger boundaries, and a renewed connection with their bodies.

A New Language for Midlife Desire
Menopause is often discussed through a short list of physical symptoms. Hot flashes, hormonal changes, and disrupted sleep tend to dominate the conversation. Yet the experience can also influence identity, sexual wellbeing, emotional safety, relationships, and the way a woman sees her place in the world.
Lisa expands the discussion by exploring desire in all its complexity. Through science, clinical knowledge, and personal storytelling, she explains why libido may change and how women can reconnect with pleasure in ways that feel comfortable and authentic. Her approach acknowledges the physical realities of menopause while giving equal attention to its psychological, relational, and spiritual dimensions.
This perspective may feel deeply reassuring to anyone who has wondered why sex suddenly hurts, why arousal feels unfamiliar, or whether intimacy will ever feel enjoyable again. The book discusses vaginal dryness, pelvic floor health, painful sex, confidence, and the role emotional security plays in sexual wellness.
Its central message is compassionate and clear: women deserve accurate information about their changing bodies. They also deserve support as they redefine intimacy, beauty, sensuality, and personal worth during midlife.

From Private Questions to Shared Understanding
Lisa has spent more than three decades working as a physiotherapist and pelvic and sexual health educator. Throughout her career, women have entered her clinic carrying concerns they struggled to express elsewhere. Beneath their physical symptoms, she often encountered loneliness, grief, frustration, and shame.
Many of these women believed they had somehow failed because their bodies had changed. Others felt invisible within mainstream conversations about sexuality, even though they remained sexually active and interested in meaningful intimacy. Their experiences revealed a significant gap between what women were living through and what society was willing to discuss openly.
Menopause eventually became personal for Lisa. During her own hormonal transition, the unexpected end of a long-term relationship caused her to question ideas about love, ageing, identity, and security. The experience brought heartbreak and uncertainty, followed by healing and profound self-discovery.
Over time, she began to understand menopause as an initiation into a more honest relationship with herself. This awakening encouraged her to release inherited beliefs about desirability and ageing. It also deepened her conversations with women through clinical sessions, workshops, writing, social media, and private messages from around the world.
A shared desire for permission appeared repeatedly. Women wanted permission to take up space, communicate their needs, protect their boundaries, and experience pleasure without apology. They wanted soulful conversations about sexuality and reassurance that love, vitality, and desire remain available throughout life.
Sexy Menopause grew from this collective longing. The book combines lessons gathered through thousands of professional encounters with the wisdom Lisa gained from her own transformation.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
I’m Lisa Fitzpatrick, an Australian physiotherapist, author, speaker and women’s pelvic and sexual-health specialist. I have worked as a physiotherapist for more than 30 years and am the founder of Womankind Pelvic Care Physiotherapy in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales.
My clinical work supports women experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction, prolapse, incontinence, pelvic pain, painful sex, birth-related concerns and the physical and sexual changes associated with menopause. I am also the author of Sexy Menopause, an evidence-informed and empowering guide to helping women understand their changing bodies and reclaim confidence, pleasure and self-trust during midlife.
Alongside my clinical work, I write and speak about menopause, pelvic health, women’s sexuality, feminine leadership and the deeper transformation that can occur in the second half of a woman’s life.

Please tell us about your journey.
I graduated as a physiotherapist in 1993 and have now spent more than three decades working with the human body. Over time, I became increasingly drawn to women’s pelvic and sexual health—an area that profoundly affects quality of life but has historically been surrounded by silence. Through thousands of conversations and more than 6,000 pelvic floor examinations, I witnessed how often women felt frightened, ashamed, or alone in their experiences. Many had never been given clear information about their pelvic floor, vaginal health, sexual function or the changes that can accompany menopause. I also saw that menopause was too often presented solely as a medical problem rather than a significant biological, emotional and personal rite of passage.
My own experience of midlife deepened my understanding of this transition and inspired me to write Sexy Menopause. I wanted to create the book I felt women deserved: scientifically grounded, clinically useful, compassionate, honest and unafraid to talk about sexuality and pleasure.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
One of the most important strategies has been listening deeply to the women I serve. My work has developed from the real questions, fears, and experiences women have shared with me in the privacy of the clinic room. Their stories revealed what was missing from the broader conversation about menopause and pelvic health.
Any message for our readers
Menopause is not the end. It’s a holy invitation to greater authenticity and reinvention.

Thank you so much, Lisa Fitzpatrick, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
