Introducing Jet Li, the Cat With a Whimsical Past
There are ordinary house cats, and then there’s Jet Li—an adventurous, history-hopping feline whose life story unfolds in the children’s book That’s Why the Cat Did That. Written by S. Lee and published by CheeFreedomPress, this tale combines humor, rhyme, and colorful illustrations to captivate readers of all ages. Jet Li’s mischievous spirit is on display from page one, as he topples household objects and investigates every corner of his domain. Yet, each curious habit seems less random once readers discover that Jet Li has led many past lives around the world.
Rather than simply presenting a cat who loves to nap in the sunshine or knock over vases, the book hints at a grand hidden backstory. Children and grown-ups are invited to imagine Jet Li’s secret adventures in places such as ancient Egypt or foggy, detective-filled London. In each setting, he leaves paw prints on world history, cleverly explaining how his current-day quirks may well be influenced by his historical escapades. This premise adds an extra layer of entertainment and curiosity, making it more than your average pet story.
A Rhyming Romp Through Time
One of the most striking aspects of That’s Why the Cat Did That is its rhythmic and often playful narration. S. Lee’s use of rhyme gives the story an energetic bounce. Each stanza rolls into the next, carrying young readers smoothly through surprising settings and lighthearted scenarios. Whether Jet Li is portrayed as a guardian of ancient temples or an accidental jester in a medieval court, his experiences are presented with gentle humor and wide-eyed wonder.
The rhyme scheme also makes the text easy to follow, even for early readers. Parents will appreciate the sing-song quality that keeps children engaged, while older kids might find themselves giggling at the cat’s comedic timing. This balance between education and fun is a testament to the author’s knack for weaving together an imaginative storyline with entertaining wordplay. Whether it’s read aloud during bedtime or performed in a classroom setting, the rhymes invite listeners to chime in and guess what Jet Li might do next.
Enriching Imaginations, Sparking Curiosity

Teachers looking to bring something fresh into the classroom may find this book especially appealing. It can introduce discussions about cultural traditions, historical settings, and the simple idea that everyone—including pets—might carry hidden stories. A lesson plan could include art projects like drawing Jet Li in a new environment or writing a short poem about a place the cat could explore. By turning a fun read into an interactive experience, students remain engaged, and the learning feels more like play than work.
Beyond the academic angle, the book emphasizes understanding and empathy, even for animals. Cats can be puzzling creatures—knocking over a lamp one moment, then staring out the window like a tiny philosopher the next. By attributing Jet Li’s antics to his extensive background, children begin to see that every being has reasons for doing what they do. This subtle lesson reminds readers that patience and empathy go a long way, whether you’re dealing with a finicky feline or a person from another culture.
Meet the Author and Her Muse

That’s Why the Cat Did That was inspired by a real feline addition to her family: an energetic cat named Jet Li adopted by her uncle and aunt. Watching him roam the house with confidence and curiosity led S. Lee to imagine all the incredible past lives he might have lived. Through vivid illustrations and playful text, she invites readers to come along for the ride. Each of Jet Li’s adventures is anchored by a sense of humor and a spirit of fun, which cat lovers are sure to appreciate.
In the end, this book is more than just a whimsical rhyme about a mischievous cat. It’s a testament to the power of imagination to transform ordinary life into grand stories. The next time a cat bats at a toy or sneaks into a forbidden corner, children might just remember Jet Li and wonder, “Was he once a guardian in a faraway temple?” It’s a thought that keeps curiosity alive, encourages laughter, and reminds readers—both young and old—that every creature might have a story worth telling.

That’s Why the Cat Did That, was inspired by Uncle and Aunt’s love for their newly adopted Cat, Jet Li. As a new furry little family member, I felt it was important to share his personality and insight with other cat lovers who often wonder why their cat does the things they do. But of course, this could just be just my humourous interpretation.
