Snowtown is an alt-rock band that is led by 19-year-old Jesse Garcia, a Utah-based singer, and songwriter who has struggled with depression and other issues that today form a big part of his music. He tries to help some people feel better and less sad, living his passion for music every day.
‘Happy Birthday’ is a somber and gentle track that talks about the experiences Jesse has had with birthdays, in particular, a certain birthday that marked his life. Jesse dealt with many eerie and difficult thoughts when he was younger, one of these being the thought of ending his life. When he was turning 15, he decided he would do it once his birthday party was over and he was alone. This decision, fortunately, never came to pass because one of Jesse’s friends, Loü, stayed throughout the night. Although he did not know the internal struggle and conflict that the artist was experiencing, Jesse credits him with saving his life and changing the course of everything for the better.
By the time the next birthday rolled in, Jesse had sworn off of any future suicide attempts, understanding how much it would hurt those around him. However, if not for that one friend who chose to stay, things could have been much worse at this point.
