Author Connie Leininger’s “Wounded Souls” – A Touching Tale of Second Chances

Every so often, a novel comes along that touches the heart and resonates with readers on a deeply personal level. Connie Leininger’s “Wounded Souls” is one such book—a captivating blend of romance, humor, and a touch of the supernatural that explores the themes of forgiveness and healing.

A Tale of Forgiveness and Healing

At its core, “Wounded Souls” is a story about second chances and the power of forgiveness. Emmett, nearing the end of his life, faces a profound choice: continue living without the ability to communicate or gift his remaining time to someone who has never experienced life on Earth. Opting for the latter, his soul is reborn as Gabe, a man tasked with guiding and protecting Emmett’s own family.

Gabe’s mission is more than just guardianship; it’s about helping those he left behind to find forgiveness—not just with others, but within themselves. As he navigates this new existence, Gabe grapples with his past regrets and the distractions of his current life, all while trying to steer his loved ones toward healing.

Peyton’s Journey: Love, Loss, and Self-Discovery

Peyton, Emmett’s granddaughter, embodies the struggles many face when life takes unexpected turns. Once an honor student with a promising future, her world is upended by an unplanned pregnancy after a fleeting moment with Colby. Now a single mother to little Riley, Peyton juggles the complexities of co-parenting with Colby, whose laid-back attitude toward commitment leaves her questioning her own worth.

Despite the challenges, the spark between Peyton and Colby hasn’t dimmed. Enter Braden, her fiancé, who brings his own set of struggles in a post-pandemic economy. Peyton’s heart is a battlefield of emotions—torn between the familiar pull of Colby and the stability that Braden offers. It’s within this emotional turmoil that Gabe steps in, offering wisdom and guidance reminiscent of a grandfather’s love.

Gabe’s Quest for Redemption

Gabe isn’t just a guardian; he’s a soul seeking redemption. In his previous life as Emmett, he failed to cherish the time he had with his loved ones. Haunted by words left unspoken, his reincarnation is a second chance to make things right. Guided by his late mother, Vera, Gabe endeavors to help Peyton avoid the mistakes he once made.

However, Gabe’s journey is far from straightforward. He finds himself distracted by the complexities of human life and emotions, which jeopardizes his mission. His struggle is a poignant reminder that even with a second chance, overcoming past failures isn’t easy.

Why “Wounded Souls” is a Must-Read

Connie Leininger’s storytelling shines with characters that are both flawed and endearing. Their quirks and imperfections make them relatable, drawing readers into their world. The novel tackles serious issues like unplanned pregnancy, the fear of unlovability, and the pursuit of forgiveness, all while weaving in humor and a dash of romance.

“Wounded Souls” is more than just a romantic tale; it’s a narrative about embracing life’s unpredictability and finding the courage to trust again. Peyton’s internal battle and Gabe’s quest for redemption intertwine to create a story that is both heartwarming and thought-provoking.

Readers will find themselves rooting for Peyton as she navigates the complexities of love and motherhood. Gabe’s presence adds a unique layer to the story, reminding us of the impact one person can have on the lives of others—even from beyond.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Hi, Please introduce yourself and tell us about what you do.

My name is Connie Leininger. I am a native of St. Louis, Missouri, and currently retired. I enjoy traveling and exploring Missouri wineries. When not spending time with friends and family, I can be found walking my feisty cattle dog, Wiley.

Please tell us about your book Wounded Souls.

The theme of my book is forgiveness and healing. At the end of Emmett’s life, He is given a choice: He can live out the rest of his days unable to communicate or bequeath his time to someone who has never taken a breath on earth. His choice gives life to Gabe, whose mission is to protect Emmett’s family and help them find forgiveness.

Emmett’s grandaughter, Peyton, is a single mother who balances a complicated relationship with her daughter’s father, Colby, and her fiancé, Braden, who struggles in a post-pandemic economy.

Their worlds intersect, and as Gabe works to fulfill his assignment, he finds himself distracted and falls short of his goals, jeopardizing his ability to help Peyton discover her truth and find a path toward healing.

I believe Wounded Souls is fun to read. Although it deals with serious issues, it mixes humor and romance with a little spice.

What inspired you to write Wounded Souls

I was inspired to write Wounded Souls many years ago while working and raising my family. Although I made several attempts to start a novel, I eventually deleted everything. It wasn’t until I retired and had time to focus that I could complete it.

Even though I had an outline to follow, the characters would sometimes take over, and I was surprised at how the plot unfolded. Those are some of my favorite chapters. I didn’t always write chapters in order, either. If I got an idea for a dialog or a scene, I felt the need to write it out quickly so I didn’t lose it. Unfortunately, I exceeded my word count and had to painfully cut characters and storylines.

Any message for our readers

My characters are flawed and quirky, and I hope you love them as much as I do.

Thank you so much, Connie, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
