Author La’Tosha Aikens Reminds Us That God Is Always Near With Her Book ‘God’s Word In My Breath’

La’Tosha Aikens is the author of God’s Word In My Breath—a devotional that offers readers a personal journey through Scripture and everyday faith. Her writing reflects warmth, compassion, and a firm belief that God’s guidance can illuminate the most ordinary moments. Through her book, she hopes people realize they’re never alone in their questions or struggles, no matter how overwhelming life can feel.

Finding a Call to Write

LaTosha Aikens Gods Word 2La’Tosha’s journey into devotional writing started quietly. She used to write short reflections in a journal during her prayer time, not suspecting they could connect with others. Then, on one life-changing day, a lady who’d read one of her entries asked, “Did you write this just for me?” That question made her pause—maybe her private notes held a purpose beyond her own spiritual growth. She gradually understood that sharing these insights might encourage people who felt isolated or burdened by life’s unpredictability.

She decided to compile her reflections into God’s Word In My Breath. On each page, readers discover heartfelt devotions that highlight God’s steady love and gentle wisdom. La’Tosha’s approach is never pushy or harsh. Instead, she creates a warm atmosphere where honest thoughts are welcomed, and every emotion is valid. She believes faith is lived out best when it intersects with real human experience—both the highs and the lows.

Embracing Emotional Depth

LaTosha Aikens Gods Word 3One of La’Tosha’s central messages is that faith doesn’t eliminate complexity—it helps people work through it. She acknowledges that believers can feel joy and sadness at the same time, or confidence laced with a bit of fear. She’s felt those tensions in her own life. Sometimes, she found herself on the brink of an exciting opportunity while also mourning the closure of a treasured season. In those moments, she realized it was possible to hold multiple emotions in one hand… and still trust God with the other.

Her devotionals often highlight that tension. They show how people can pray through conflicting feelings and come away with renewed faith. She writes plainly about how the Lord remains present, even in the swirl of contradictory emotions. Readers have said they appreciate how La’Tosha addresses these issues with tenderness—acknowledging that faith doesn’t always mean smooth sailing, but it does mean knowing Someone is steering the ship.

Whether readers are wrestling with disappointment, brimming with gratitude, or simply feeling “in-between,” La’Tosha encourages them to bring each emotion to God. She’s convinced that God’s Word can renew our thinking and refresh our perspectives, no matter how tangled our feelings might be.

The Power of Daily Reflection

La’Tosha’s writing style suggests that transformation usually begins in quiet, consistent moments. She recommends taking just a few minutes each day to reflect on a Scripture verse or a key thought—something that sparks curiosity or aligns with a current struggle. In her devotional, she provides short entries that can be read before breakfast, during a lunch break, or right before bedtime. She wants readers to see that faith isn’t an occasional event. It’s a living, breathing relationship that deepens with each prayer, reflection, or heartfelt cry for help.

Sometimes, her devotionals guide people to ask bold questions—“Where is God in my disappointment?” or “How can I find joy in the middle of loss?” She understands that faith involves both trust and exploration. She insists it’s perfectly fine to admit confusion; in fact, it’s often in that state of uncertainty that people discover fresh insights about God’s character. Her hope is that each short reading inspires reflection long after the day’s hustle and bustle returns.

Walking in Hope and Grace

La’Tosha believes God’s Word In My Breath isn’t just a book—it’s a companion for those craving real hope. She remains convinced that Scripture, when paired with honest reflection, can catalyze powerful inner changes. In her view, faith isn’t reserved for spiritual giants—it’s for ordinary people who dare to rely on God’s promises, even when life takes unexpected turns.

People who’ve read her devotionals often mention the gentle tone that resonates throughout her writing. They sense that she’s been there—uncertain, weary, hopeful, searching—and that her words spring from lived experience. She wants readers to feel that they, too, can approach God with every emotion and every circumstance. Nobody is too broken or too complicated for divine love.

La’Tosha continues to share her passion for Christ through conversations, speaking engagements, and new projects aimed at drawing hearts toward God. She prays that those who read God’s Word In My Breath will find strength to persevere, wisdom to recognize hidden blessings, and courage to face tomorrow without fear. Ultimately, her greatest desire is to see others discover the profound truth she’s come to know: God walks alongside us, meeting us in both our chaos and our stillness—faithful in every breath we take.

We had the privilege of interviewing La’Tosha Aikens. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please tell us about your devotional book.

The writing of this devotional has been a process for me. I thought I was writing devotionals for myself daily and didn’t realize that I was writing for others until I heard God say clearly, “Do you really think you are the only one dealing with these issues and asking me these questions?” For a while, I said, “No, God, there is no way that this is going to happen,” and I sat and thought to myself, “Are you truly hearing the voice of God?” Confirmation came when I was speaking with a lady and pulled out one of my journals. The lady said, “Did you write this for me?” As we both sat and cried, I looked up and said, “Father, I hear you.”

Often, we see a smile and assume it signals happiness, or we see tears and immediately think of sadness. These emotions seem so clear-cut, don’t they? But what if I told you that you could smile and weep at the same time? That you could feel grateful and sad simultaneously? Or perhaps experience jealousy and shame in a single moment? This, my friend, is what I call complex emotions.

We often fail to recognize the depth of our emotional lives. We can feel more than one emotion at once, whether directed at a person or a situation. Sometimes, those emotions are contradictory—joy and sorrow, hope and frustration—and yet they coexist within us, shaping our experience. The beauty of this complexity is that, even in our emotional turmoil, God has given us grace to bear more than one emotion at a time.

The challenge, however, is learning how to process these emotions. What matters most is how we allow ourselves to sit with them and work through them. I remember a season in my own life where I experienced this profound emotional complexity. I was filled with joy as new opportunities opened before me, yet there was a deep sadness as I watched old chapters close. I was grateful that God was guiding me through it all, even though the process was difficult. It was a time when my emotions seemed to be pulling me in different directions, but I chose to be still, to breathe, and to let God show me how to navigate it all.

This book is born from that experience. It’s a journey through the many emotions we encounter on a day-to-day basis, and it’s an invitation for you to take a moment to pause and reflect on the emotions you may be carrying. The purpose of this devotional is not to simplify the emotional journey, but to give you space and time to recognize that God’s Word, combined with your breath, has the power to transform your perspective on whatever emotions you’re dealing with right now.

As you journey through these pages, my hope is that you will gain a deeper understanding of your own emotional complexity and allow God’s grace to guide you in processing your feelings. Whether you’re navigating joy, sorrow, frustration, or peace—know that God is with you, and He is big enough to carry it all.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

What has helped me become successful on this journey is learning to listen to the still, small voice of God and harken to the call. My prayer is that you have found something here that speaks to your heart and draws you closer to God. Whether it was a truth to hold on to, a challenge to reflect on, or a reminder of His love and faithfulness, may these words continue to resonate in your life as you go forward.

Any message for our readers.

Remember, each day is a new opportunity to grow in your relationship with God, and He is always with you, guiding and strengthening you. Keep seeking His presence, and know that He is doing a work in you that will bear fruit in His perfect time.

Be encouraged, be brave, and continue to walk by faith.

Thank you so much, La’Tosha Aikens, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
