In the realm of superhero narratives, Kyle Durant’s Axiom emerges as a refreshing and heartfelt addition. As the inaugural book in the Axiom Trilogy, it intertwines the thrilling elements of anime, cartoons, and video games with profound themes of humanity and altruism. This novel doesn’t just entertain; it aspires to inspire readers to believe in the possibility of a better world.
A Protagonist Rooted in Reality
Meet Dustin, a college student burdened by the weight of his past and disenchanted with the direction of humanity. His daily life is a constant reminder of the selfishness that seems to pervade society, fueling his deep-seated desire to help others. One seemingly ordinary morning, everything changes when he awakens to find himself affixed to his apartment ceiling. This inexplicable event marks the beginning of his journey into the extraordinary.
Bestowed with energy and ki-based superpowers by the Earth itself, Dustin discovers that our planet is a living entity with its own physical form, much like other planets in the universe. This revelation opens his eyes to a reality far beyond his wildest imaginations. However, these powers come with a caveat: the emergence of an ancient evil predating the galaxy and the resurfacing of personal demons he thought were long buried.
Strong Allies and Complex Relationships
Dustin’s journey is not a solitary one. He is joined by Rachel, a formidable female lead who defies the typical tropes of love interests in superhero stories. Independent and resilient, Rachel carries her own hidden scars yet stands unwavering against both human and superpowered foes. Her character adds depth to the narrative, embodying strength while navigating her personal struggles.
Then there’s Ryan, Dustin’s best friend and a brilliant mind who brings both levity and ingenuity to the story. His emotional quirks and humor provide a balance to the narrative’s intensity. Ryan’s exceptional intellect allows him to access the multiverse, craft advanced androids, and develop cutting-edge technology. His contributions are crucial, often turning the tide in their battle against looming threats.
The Heart Behind the Heroics: About the Author
Kyle Durant infuses Axiom with a sincerity that stems from his own life experiences. Having faced challenges early on, he shares Dustin’s sense of altruism and the melancholy that can accompany it. Kyle’s motivation for writing this story is deeply personal. He aims to reach out to readers who have endured pain or felt isolated, assuring them that they are not alone or irrational for yearning for goodness in the world. His message is clear: despite the darkness that may surround us, there is still hope for positive change.
A Fusion of Influences and Originality
What sets Axiom apart is its seamless blending of various influences while maintaining a unique voice. Fans of anime and manga will appreciate the high-octane fight scenes, complete with martial arts, energy beams, and innovative combat techniques. The action sequences are vivid and dynamic, capturing the essence of the genres that inspired them.
However, the novel is not solely about action. It delves into deeper themes such as the essence of humanity, the impact of personal choices, and the struggle between good and evil. The characters are multifaceted, each grappling with their own internal conflicts while contributing to the overarching narrative of hope and change.

Why Axiom Matters
In a genre often dominated by tales of might and spectacle, Axiom stands out by grounding its story in genuine emotion and real-world relevance. It’s a reminder that heroism isn’t just about possessing superpowers; it’s about the courage to confront one’s own fears and the determination to make a difference.
Kyle Durant’s Axiom invites readers to embark on a journey that is as introspective as it is action-packed. It’s a story that challenges us to reflect on our own lives and consider how we, too, can contribute to a better world. Whether you’re drawn to the thrilling battles, the complex characters, or the underlying message of hope, Axiom offers a compelling experience that resonates long after the final page is turned.
We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Please tell us about your book.
Axiom combines anime, cartoon, and video game-inspired moments wrapped in a kind and caring message. The story has humanitarian and altruistic themes and fights for a better world inside the book and out.
Axiom is about Dustin, an altruistic college student who hates what his species has become. Due to his past, he only wants to help people, but he sees the opposite every day. Then, one day, he wakes up stuck to the ceiling of his college apartment and discovers the planet herself has bestowed upon him literal energy and ki-based superpowers.
He learns that the Earth is alive like us, has its own physical body, and other planets are in a similar situation. However, this newfound way to help people, and change the world for the better, comes with a warning of an evil older than the galaxy and a personal demon from Dustin’s past.
Please tell us about your journey.
I did not have the best start to life and experienced significant hardship along the way. This made me empathetic and made me want to help anyone I could while recognizing the hardship and corruption in the world. I especially grew exasperated at how society was not serving everyone and how people in power were making things worse.
Weirdly enough, as a kid, I scoffed at the idea of writing a book. It seemed like too much work and something I could never hope to do. Then, in 2014, I was at a job fresh out of college, where I had plenty of free time. I was reading one of my favorite authors at the time (D.J. MacHale) and one of his forwards mentioned to “write what you know.” That simple phrase inspired a passion I didn’t know I had, and it led me on an almost decade-long journey of writing not just one book but three in the same story. Finally, after several jobs, children, a mortgage, and that wonderful Covid fiasco, I got the first part in the Axiom trilogy published earlier this month, November 2024.
It’s kind of funny in a way as well because I didn’t think people would want a story that looks to a better future at first. Until a certain U.S. event happened around the same time I published my book, and I knew I had to continue this dream.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
I feel that my strategies were just more of who I am. I wrote what I knew, and that included a metric ton of anime/cartoons I watched, manga I read, and video games I played. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you want to look at it, I also knew hardship, pain, and a strong desire to help people.
Any message for our readers
Never give up on trying to make the world a better place. No matter how hard it is.
Thank you so much, Kyle, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
