Captivating Stories, Harmonious Sounds

At the heart of the Little Listener’s Crate lie three beautifully crafted children’s books: “Germaine the Beetle,” “A Journey for Felix,” and “A Race to Believe In.” These stories are specially chosen for their ability to ignite a child’s imagination while imparting meaningful lessons in courage, empathy, curiosity, and confidence. Each tale takes young readers on journeys filled with vibrant characters and meaningful discoveries, encouraging personal growth and emotional development.

Yet the magic doesn’t stop there. Each storybook in the crate is paired with a carefully chosen soundtrack accessible via a QR code linked to an exclusive Spotify playlist. Imagine the joy of reading “Germaine the Beetle” with soft ambient forest sounds enhancing the storytelling, or experiencing Felix’s adventures accompanied by calming jazz tunes and reflective piano compositions. These curated soundtracks elevate each narrative, creating an emotionally rich and memorable storytime experience.

Inspiring Creative Exploration

Little Listener’s Crate goes beyond mere storytelling, offering interactive elements designed to engage children creatively. Inside each crate, children discover a plush beetle toy, a comforting and imaginative companion that brings the character of Germaine vividly to life. This tactile addition encourages imaginative play, inviting children to explore the story beyond its pages and immerse themselves fully in the narrative.

Accompanying the plush toy is the “Color & Listen” booklet, a coloring activity inspired directly by scenes from the featured books. Children can color in beloved scenes, deepening their connection with the characters and enhancing their understanding of the stories through active, creative involvement. It’s a playful yet educational supplement that perfectly complements the storytelling experience.

Additionally, the crate includes the charming “Reader’s Passport,” an engaging tool designed to encourage ongoing participation in reading activities. Each completed activity—reading a book, listening to a soundtrack, coloring a scene, or enjoying family storytelling sessions—earns a mark or sticker in the passport. This simple yet meaningful system turns reading into an exciting and rewarding adventure, creating lasting memories and celebrating the joys of literary achievement.

A Gentle Return to Analog Engagement

In our increasingly digital world, the Little Listener’s Crate champions the gentle beauty of analog storytelling and focused attention. April Sheris crafted this unique concept to help families create meaningful moments, free from digital distractions. The deliberate pairing of books and music invites children to slow down, engage thoughtfully, and form deeper emotional connections with stories.

This thoughtful approach promotes essential life skills such as empathy, creativity, patience, and reflective thinking—qualities nurtured through quiet moments of engagement and interaction. It transforms simple storytime into a profound educational experience, shaping young minds and nurturing emotional intelligence in an inviting, playful manner.

Hi, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.

My name is April Sheris, and I tell stories for a living—sometimes with paper, sometimes with tea, sometimes with sound. I am the founder of Upland Studios, a publishing house turned storytelling atelier that includes bespoke books, immersive literary experiences, and cultural products like the Little Listener’s Crate. I live at the intersection of luxury and literature, where every story is treated like an heirloom and every reader like a collector of worlds.

Please tell us about Little Listener’s Crate

Rather than a single book, I’ve published a constellation of voices. But our newest creation—the Little Listener’s Crate—is a lyrical blend of children’s literature and vinyl-inspired ambiance. It includes titles like Germaine the Beetle, A Journey for Felix, and A Race to Believe In, each paired with curated soundtracks and a reading passport for young listeners. It’s a literary mixtape for children—designed to feel like a treasure chest from a poetic childhood.

Please share your journey with our readers.

My journey began in quiet libraries and dusty bookstores, dreaming up lives that didn’t yet exist. I started publishing over a decade ago with a single belief: stories could heal, connect, and elevate. What began as indie publishing grew into a cultural studio—championing underrepresented voices, turning books into experiences, and crafting something so beautiful it felt like a love letter to readers. I’ve walked this path with wonder, resilience, and the belief that the right story always finds its way home.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Three key ingredients: reverence, rhythm, and risk. I treat storytelling with deep reverence—like jazz or architecture, it must be designed with care. I build rhythm into everything, from how a book is laid out to how a campaign moves through the seasons. And I take risks—I launch what doesn’t exist yet, trusting my intuition more than the market. I also collaborate intentionally—surrounding myself with creators who dream in color and build with heart.

Any message for our readers?

You are the curators of your own narrative. Whether you’re nine or ninety, the books you read, the music you play, the art you collect—they form your personal museum of self. Let it be rich, let it be tender, let it be bold. And never underestimate the power of a well-told story—it might just be the spark that shifts your world.

Thank you so much for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
