Humanity has always toyed with the idea of bending reality to our will, but in Elysium Rising by Stephen Salaka, that notion becomes more than a sci-fi trope—it becomes humanity’s next frontier. This riveting novel braids together elements of cosmic horror, speculative tech, and wry humor into an unforgettable journey that poses a daring question: What if our dreams could build the future—and bring it crashing down?
A Universe Forged from Dreams
At the heart of Elysium Rising is an ambitious tech manager who inadvertently taps into a realm beyond conscious perception. Through vivid, almost prophetic dreams, he crafts the Eternal Engine—a remarkable device that doesn’t just refine technology, but seemingly redefines reality itself. This invention offers astonishing possibilities: limitless power sources, effortless interstellar travel, and the kind of innovations that once sat firmly in the domain of fantasy.
Yet, as groundbreaking as this discovery is, it comes with a heavy burden. The more success he enjoys, the more he senses a looming threat scratching at the edges of possibility. His dreams become more than just a wellspring of inspiration; they morph into a gateway, connecting him to sinister forces lying dormant in the void. Suddenly, the line between creation and destruction blurs, leaving him to wonder if the Eternal Engine might be heralding an era of unprecedented progress—or pulling humanity toward an unimaginable nightmare.
The Pointers: Harbingers or Warnings?

In an era defined by scientific achievements and expanding frontiers, The Pointers seem out of place—both awe-inspiring and unnerving. Are they an omen of cosmic judgment? Or perhaps observers from another dimension, waiting to see if humanity can handle the powers it has awakened? As these silent watchers multiply worldwide, a dark puzzle begins to form. Their presence offers no immediate answers, only questions that propel the novel’s tension to ever more dizzying heights.
A Collision of Genre and Imagination
One of the most enthralling aspects of Elysium Rising is its fearless blend of genres. In a single chapter, readers might feel the pulse of a cyberpunk metropolis—with all its neon lights and advanced machinery—while, in the next, find themselves grappling with the creeping dread reminiscent of a cosmic horror tale. Salaka’s writing balances humor and despair with remarkable finesse.
Fans of Inception will recognize the way dreams become battlegrounds for both creation and destruction. Those who loved The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy will appreciate the flashes of wit that break up the book’s darker twists. And for anyone fond of Insidious, the paranormal tension creeping into everyday life will keep them on edge. Each of these influences melds into a story that is both fresh and nostalgic, paying homage to genre classics while forging its own inventive path.
The Vision and the Void
Beneath the futuristic glimmer, Elysium Rising is, at its core, a deeply human story. The protagonist isn’t just building the Eternal Engine to change the world—he’s seeking validation, purpose, and a legacy that outlives him. Like many visionaries, he struggles with the moral cost of his ambition. Should he forge ahead, knowing the scale of potential catastrophe? Or should he walk away to protect those he loves from the predatory unknown that threatens to shatter everything?
In exploring these questions, Salaka dives headlong into the psychological repercussions of wielding near-godlike power. The tension doesn’t just revolve around cosmic terrors or cryptic watchers; it stems from the hero’s wrestling match with his own conscience. By painting ambition as both a catalyst for change and a doorway to oblivion, the novel takes on an existential tone that resonates with today’s rapidly evolving tech landscape.
Behind the Curtain: Stephen A. Salaka
The novel’s intensity may well be a reflection of its author’s own journey. Facing a layoff in January 2024, Stephen A. Salaka channeled uncertainty into creativity, finishing the manuscript that would soon captivate sci-fi and horror enthusiasts alike. With a background in aerospace, pharmaceuticals, and corporate leadership—as well as advanced degrees in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Business—Salaka brings real-world insights to his fictional universe.
These experiences lend an air of authenticity to the challenges his characters confront. Corporate espionage, high-stakes innovation, and the messy realities of managing global teams all find their echoes in Elysium Rising. But what truly sets Salaka’s writing apart is how he interweaves hard-hitting technological concepts with the uncanny. He uses these blended elements to remind readers that behind every breakthrough lies a shadow—a reflection of our deepest fears and unspoken desires.
Where It All Leads
Elysium Rising raises the stakes to a cosmic scale without losing its sense of personal drama. As conspiracies unravel and reality itself begins to waver, readers can’t help but question what lies just beyond the veil of human perception. Is the Eternal Engine humanity’s crowning achievement, or the key to its undoing?
For those intrigued by this fusion of dark fantasy, sci-fi spectacle, and existential angst, the journey awaits on Amazon. Step into a world where dreams sculpt the future and cosmic forces lurk in the unknown. In Elysium Rising, Stephen Salaka dares to ask how far one should push the boundaries of possibility—and at what cost.
We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Hi, Thank you so much for joining us today! Please tell us about your journey of writing the book ‘Elysium Rising’.
Hi, so, after decades, I finally did it. I wrote and released my first book!
In January of 2024, I found myself in the same boat as thousands of others—caught in a reduction in force, staring down an uncertain future.
Like many in tech, I dove into side projects, trying to balance job hunting with something that felt productive, something that I could build.
One of those projects? Finishing my first sci-fi novel.
I’ve always had ideas rattling around in my head—stories blending cyberpunk, cosmic horror, and existential dread—but between work, family, and life, they always took a backseat.
Suddenly, I had time.
So, I poured my energy into something I could control: Elysium Rising.
Thank you so much, Stephen, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
