Oakley’s Adventure to Glow
Oakley is a thoughtful little girl who deeply admires the warmth and kindness her mother effortlessly shares with everyone around her. Watching her mom, Oakley wonders if she, too, can light up the world with joy. Determined to find her glow, Oakley embarks on creative, imaginative experiments—each brighter and more hopeful than the last.
First, she tries capturing lightning bugs, believing their gentle glow could somehow be hers. Next, she scatters glitter, convinced that a sparkle might ignite her inner shine. She even wraps herself with colorful Christmas lights, desperately seeking the secret behind her mom’s magical brightness. But despite her earnest attempts, Oakley feels none of these efforts bring her closer to achieving her heartfelt goal.
Oakley’s adventurous spirit starts to fade into doubt, but deep within her remains a tiny seed of hope. Maybe, she thinks, she just needs a different approach altogether.
The Light That Comes from Within

The realization changes Oakley profoundly. She now understands why her mother’s glow never dimmed—it wasn’t because of decorations or external tricks. Her mom’s glow was authentic and pure, born from kindness, compassion, and deep faith. This powerful lesson inspires Oakley, filling her heart with newfound confidence.
Now knowing the secret, Oakley learns that her own glow is unique, deeply personal, and already within her. She discovers that sharing love and kindness naturally brightens her world and those around her. With each act of love and each moment of faith, her inner light grows stronger and more vibrant, turning her shyness into a quiet, confident strength.
From Heartfelt Inspiration to Cherished Book

Years before Oakley’s Bright Idea became a beloved book, Bailey crafted a charming little story while working as a nanny. This playful tale, about a young girl determined to fill a room with light, was originally gifted and then gently tucked away. But life—and motherhood—had other plans. Years later, after reading countless bedtime stories with her own daughter, Oakley, Bailey noticed a gap: children’s books that simply and beautifully communicated the power of faith and Jesus’s love were surprisingly rare.
Inspired by this realization, Bailey revisited her tucked-away story. Through careful nurturing, thoughtful editing, and a sprinkle of personal experiences, Oakley’s Bright Idea emerged. By casting her own daughter, Oakley, as the story’s heroine, Bailey infused the narrative with authentic warmth and heartfelt sincerity, turning a simple story into a treasured family keepsake.
A Heartfelt Message for Families Everywhere

Perfect for cozy bedtime routines, family storytime, or Sunday school lessons, Oakley’s Bright Idea offers a tender reminder: every child, no matter their size or personality, carries a divine spark inside, waiting to illuminate the world. Oakley’s journey illustrates how simple acts of faith and love can foster inner confidence, enabling even the shyest child to shine brightly.
Adding a touch of humor and warmth, Bailey shares that the success of Oakley’s story has sparked friendly expectations from her younger daughter, Ivorly, who eagerly awaits her starring role in a future tale. Bailey laughs and admits she’s feeling inspired—and perhaps slightly pressured—to create another beloved story soon.
Oakley’s Bright Idea beautifully underscores the power and simplicity of sharing love and faith. Through Bailey Rodgers’ gentle storytelling, children and parents alike discover that the brightest lights are the ones glowing softly within each heart, always ready to brighten the lives around them.
We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
Hi! I’m Bailey, a military wife, mom, and now — unexpectedly but joyfully — a children’s book author. I recently self-published a Christian picture book called Oakley’s Bright Idea, written to inspire little ones to understand where and who their shining lights come from.
Please tell us about your journey.
The idea for Oakley’s Bright Idea actually began about eight years ago when I was a nanny. I doodled a little story on paper for the youngest daughter, and her mom really loved it. I thought about turning it into something more back then, but life moved on, and the idea was set aside.
Years later, as I began my own journey into motherhood, that story came back to me — but with deeper meaning. I started thinking more about the kind of role model I wanted to be. Not perfect, but someone who points my children to Jesus through everyday actions. Even when I mess up, I can use those moments to circle back to grace and remind them (and myself) what it looks like to shine a light in the world. That became the heart of the book — encouraging kids to be little lights for Jesus right where they are.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Prayer and persistence. I asked God to guide each step — from the words on the page to the illustrator I chose. I also leaned into community, shared authentically, and trusted that if the message was meaningful to even one child or parent, it was worth it. I think staying grounded in the “why” behind the book helped me keep going even when the process felt intimidating.
Any message for our readers?
Don’t underestimate the power of your voice — or your child’s. Oakley’s Bright Idea is a reminder that even small acts of kindness and love can shine brightly. And for those dreaming of writing or creating something — you don’t need a big platform or a perfect plan to begin. Just start, and trust that God will use it.
Thank you so much, Bailey, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
