Experience the Stunning Sound of Pacoenfuego’s Darkly Beautiful Folk EP ‘Distant At Best’

Echoes of the Night: Pacoenfuego’s Distant At Best

Music often becomes a mirror, reflecting pieces of ourselves we can’t put into words. With his new EP Distant At Best, pacoenfuego has crafted just that kind of reflection. Released on September 12, 2025, the five-song project may only last twelve minutes and thirty-three seconds, yet it holds a world of stories. The tracks balance quiet acoustic intimacy with the shadows of horror-inspired soundscapes, creating something both fragile and powerful.

From the Streets of Mexico City to Cinematic Scores

Pacoenfuego’s relationship with sound began early. Growing up in Mexico City, he gravitated toward the guitar as a way to express the unspoken. That bond shaped his artistry, giving him a compass for a career built on melody and mood. While the guitar remained his anchor, he expanded into music production and soon ventured into film.

His work in horror scoring sharpened his ear for atmosphere. Using Ableton, he became known for weaving chilling textures into soundtracks, including the haunting score for A Savior Red, which reached global audiences on Hulu and Amazon Prime. These experiences gave him a rare ability: blending beauty with unease. It’s a skill that now shapes his folk songs, allowing each track to feel cinematic without losing personal intimacy.

Pacoenfuego has carved his own path, one that draws from tradition while carrying the mark of the unusual. His sound is both familiar and strange, as if you’re hearing a memory from another life.

The Soundscape of Distant At Best

This EP plays like a short film told through chords and words. The opener, it’s made, stretches out with raw guitar lines and a voice that sounds both weary and determined. At just over three minutes, it sets the tone for everything that follows: stripped, honest, and emotionally charged.

call, marked explicit, delivers direct confession with an edge. It feels closer, almost like sitting in the same room with the artist. sparks then adds a layer of hope and fragility, catching the fleeting glow of human connection. Its 2:37 runtime leaves space for quiet beauty to unfold.

By the fourth track, citylights, the EP shifts toward imagery of wandering through urban nights. The short, sharp 2:16 cut paints loneliness beneath glowing windows and empty streets. Finally, gust. closes the record in a surge. At 1:45, it’s abrupt but unforgettable, a final push of energy that lingers like the tail end of a storm.

Taken together, the five songs become a meditation on memory, longing, and the shadows that remain when moments pass. The brevity is intentional. Each track arrives quickly, says what it needs to say, and disappears, leaving listeners with echoes to replay in their heads.

We had the privilege of interviewing Pacoenfuego. Here are excerpts from the interview.

Hi, it’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.

Hi, I am pacoenfuego, an indie folk artist with a flavor of horror and spooky in my acoustic music.

Please tell us about your journey.

I started first as a guitarist and now do a lot of production for local artists in Austin, as well as run my own podcast. The soundtrack for horror movies has been great, but I generally love the sombre feeling of acoustic music.

Any message for our readers?

Please know there is a lot more to come, and I plan to infuse the indie folk genre with new blends and genre-bending audio.

Thank you so much for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
