For most people, childhood is a time of innocence, discovery, and love. But for Tyler Hathaway, it was the complete opposite. His book, Shadow’s Child, is not just a memoir—it is a testimony of survival in the face of relentless abuse. It is an unfiltered, honest, and deeply moving account of a child who was robbed of safety and happiness, left only with the cold comfort of shadows.
From the age of four, Hathaway’s life was marked by pain. His father played the leading role in his suffering, while other family members took turns enforcing punishment that was never about justice—only control and cruelty. In his world, there was no kindness, no compassion. Each day began with dread, knowing that no matter what he did, he would be made to suffer.
There was no place to run, no arms to seek comfort in. The only escape was within himself, hiding in the literal and figurative shadows where, for brief moments, the torment couldn’t reach him. But shadows can only provide so much protection. The reality remained: he was a child left to endure unspeakable treatment by those who should have protected him.
Yet, Shadow’s Child is not just a book about pain. It is a story of endurance, of resilience, and ultimately, of survival. It is about finding a way to keep going even when life itself feels like a punishment.
The Courage to Speak Out
Writing Shadow’s Child was not an easy task. Every word carries the weight of memories that most would rather forget. It took years of writing and rewriting for Hathaway to finally put his story into a book—not because he wanted pity, but because he wanted the truth to be known.
The stigma surrounding childhood abuse often leaves survivors feeling silenced. They are made to believe that no one will listen, that their pain is too much for the world to bear. But Hathaway refuses to stay silent. By sharing his story, he is not only reclaiming his own voice but also encouraging others to break their silence.
Childhood trauma does not simply vanish when a child grows up. It lingers, shaping lives, influencing thoughts, and affecting relationships. Hathaway’s book sheds light on the long-term impact of such experiences, reminding readers that abuse doesn’t just end—it leaves scars that can take a lifetime to heal.
But more importantly, this book is about hope. It is about proving that, no matter how dark the past, there is a future worth fighting for. It is about showing other survivors that they are not alone, that their stories matter, and that healing is possible.
A Book with a Purpose
What makes Shadow’s Child even more significant is its mission beyond storytelling. Every penny earned from the book is donated to the NSPCC, a charity dedicated to protecting children from abuse and helping survivors rebuild their lives. Hathaway has taken his pain and turned it into something that can help others—ensuring that his suffering was not in vain.
For readers, this is more than just a book purchase. It is a chance to support a cause that matters. It is an opportunity to contribute to the fight against child abuse, to stand with survivors, and to be part of a movement that believes every child deserves safety, love, and protection.
The Man Behind the Words
Tyler Hathaway is more than an author—he is a fighter. Living with disabilities, he has faced challenges beyond what most can imagine, yet he has never let them define him. His strength lies in his ability to turn pain into purpose, to transform the horrors of his past into words that can inspire, educate, and heal.
Shadow’s Child is just the beginning. Hathaway is currently working on a six-book series that delves deeper into the realities of childhood trauma, abuse, and the lasting effects they leave behind. Each book will explore different aspects of survival, from the psychological aftermath to the struggle of finding one’s place in a world that once felt unsafe.
His story is proof that survival is not just about making it through the worst moments—it is about rising from them. It is about refusing to be silenced. It is about taking control of a narrative that was once dictated by others.
Why You Should Read This Book
Shadow’s Child is not a book for the faint of heart. It does not offer sugarcoated versions of the past. It does not soften the truth to make it easier to digest. It is a raw, emotional, and brutally honest account of what it means to grow up in a world without love or safety.
For survivors of abuse, this book may provide comfort in knowing they are not alone. It offers validation for those who have struggled in silence, a reminder that their pain is real and that they deserve to be heard.
For those who have never experienced such trauma, this book serves as an eye-opening revelation. It forces readers to acknowledge a reality that is too often ignored, pushing society to do better, to be better.
Tyler Hathaway’s story is one of unimaginable suffering, but it is also one of courage and strength. His words are painful but necessary. His book is not just a memoir—it is a message, a warning, and a beacon of hope all at once.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview.
Hi Tyler, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.
Hi, I am disabled but have managed to write a series of books with regard to a bad childhood. My initial book, Shadow’s Child, describes the very beginnings of how my childhood went from bad to completely evil at the hands of those who were meant to protect me.
Please tell us about your journey.
My journey, wow; that’s a tough one from childhood, through my teens, to homelessness, to me trying to take my own life to being held in mental health care for 20+ years.
What inspired you to write the book?
My goal is to help others realize that someone who is treated with such contempt and hatred can survive despite the odds.
Any message for our readers?
YES, I CAN.
Thank you so much, Tyler, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
