Misty O’Hara’s The Hundred Man Plan Is a Daring Celebration of Reinvention and Self-Ownership

Some novels announce themselves quietly, while others step forward with confidence and humor. The Hundred Man Plan belongs to the latter, inviting readers into a story that feels daring, personal, and unexpectedly warm. From its earliest moments, the book signals that it intends to question social expectations while keeping the experience entertaining and approachable.

The Voice Behind the Novel

The Hundred Man Plan Paperback – November 13, 2025 introduces readers to Misty O’Hara, a first-time novelist from Salt Lake City, Utah, whose life experience gives her writing an unmistakable edge. Publishing her debut at fifty, Misty brings decades of insight, curiosity, and self-awareness to the page. Her perspective feels earned rather than imagined.

She has been married for thirty-one years and has also maintained a committed relationship for seven years, an honesty that shapes her understanding of love and identity. That openness carries directly into her storytelling. The loss of her mother to ALS marked a profound moment in her life, one that sparked reflection and rebellion in equal measure. In the midst of grief, she considered making a dramatic personal statement. Instead, she chose to explore that impulse through fiction.

Writing a novel allowed Misty to channel emotion, humor, and imagination into something creative and meaningful. Later in the narrative, her vivacious personality becomes evident through sharp dialogue and fearless themes. Her love for unconventional paths and extraordinary choices gives the book its distinct voice.

First Reactions to the Storyline

At its core, The Hundred Man Plan is a witty and subversive exploration of what happens when a woman decides to reclaim control of her narrative. The story begins when a seemingly stable ten-year marriage unravels after an anonymous woman exposes the husband’s affair. The betrayal cuts deeply, yet the real blow comes from his reaction. He blames his wife, labeling her in ways meant to shame and silence.

Rather than internalizing those accusations, the protagonist responds with action. Determined to redefine herself on her own terms, she sets out on a bold personal experiment. With encouragement from her already confident best friend, she commits to an audacious goal. She will sleep with one hundred men.

What unfolds is far more nuanced than the premise suggests. Each encounter reflects a moment of growth, curiosity, or self-realization. The novel captures the awkwardness, excitement, and emotional complexity of modern dating, presenting one-night stands as experiences that can reveal as much as they conceal. Humor flows naturally, often softening moments of vulnerability and introspection.

Exploring the Deeper Themes

Misty approaches sexuality with candor, yet the book remains grounded in emotional truth. Desire becomes a means of self-discovery rather than external validation. As the protagonist moves forward, she begins to shed long-held assumptions about intimacy, loyalty, and personal worth.

The friendship at the heart of the novel adds balance and warmth. The bond between the two women offers laughter, honesty, and steady support, reminding readers that personal transformation often happens alongside trusted companionship. Their conversations feel lived-in and real, anchoring the story even as the plot explores bold territory.

As the journey progresses, the focus subtly shifts. The protagonist starts redefining what fulfillment looks like for her. Love, intimacy, and confidence take on new meanings shaped by experience rather than expectation. Misty allows this evolution to unfold naturally, without forcing neat resolutions. That restraint gives the story credibility and emotional depth.

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

I am Misty O’Hara, and I wrote and published my first book at 50 years old!

Please tell us about your book.

My mom passed away from ALS, and to rebel, I was going to go sleep with 100 men. I decided writing a fictional book about it would be more interesting (and safer)

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Write every day and write what you think is interesting.
