This charming tale, part of The Dwellings series, introduces young readers to a world where homes come alive with personality and purpose.

Ivan’s Dream and an Unexpected Turn

Ivan is no ordinary igloo. Nestled in the snowy expanse of the North Pole, he dreams of becoming a famous tourist attraction. Just as visitors begin to notice him, a mysterious menace starts to sabotage his newfound popularity. But when Ivan steps in to save this troublemaker from a pack of hungry dogs, everything changes. Their act of bravery sparks an unlikely friendship, leading to a magical experience that draws more tourists than Ivan ever imagined.

Delving into Themes That Matter

What makes “Ivan the Igloo” stand out is how it gently tackles important themes like compassion, forgiveness, and understanding. The story delves into why someone might behave unkindly, revealing that sometimes, those who seem mean are simply masking their own fears and insecurities. Through Ivan’s interactions, children learn the importance of communication and seeing beyond the surface to understand others better.

The Magic of The Dwellings Series

“Ivan the Igloo” is a delightful entry in Jason Goodchild’s The Dwellings series, where homes around the world are brought to life, each with its own story to tell. Inspired during a time when many of us were confined to our homes, Goodchild envisioned dwellings infused with the spirit and energy of their inhabitants. This series aims to provide comfort and confidence to children, fostering empathy and compassion along the way. Another beloved book in the series, “Lilly the Lighthouse: Saved by the Storm,” continues this mission by exploring themes of honesty and the power of friendship.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Hi, Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

My name is Jason Goodchild, and I am a tutor and author of children’s books.

Please tell us about your book.

My newly released book is called Ivan the Igloo – Warms a Cold Heart and is a part of the Dwellings book series, where homes have taken on a life of their own. In this new release, the story, about an Igloo, reflects us as humans being compassionate, understanding and willing to talk with someone who is being a bully, but really needs help because they are not confident in themselves.

Ivan the Igloo, as well as Lilly the Lighthouse (which is the first book in the series), explores themes of compassion, forgiveness, understanding, and the importance of communication.

Please tell us about your journey.

The journey with this book range and ultimately deciding to embark upon becoming an author all started with writing down the ideas ideas that came to me, with the intention to one day write a book or so. It wasn’t until Lockdown in the UK that sparked the idea to write a series called The Dwellings. It came from the thought that homes may have taken on the emotions of their inhabitants – thus coming to life! Their stories would then be told from their perspective of life.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

The strategies that have helped me to realise my idea of bringing these characters to life, include being disciplined in writing and planning as well as well as trying the best I can to navigate through my plan.

Any message for our readers

The message for readers is that I hope that you and your families enjoy this book range and are able to implement the values that are exhibited (such as respect, forgiveness, compassion, and understanding) into everyday life. Blessings to one and all!

Thank you so much, Jason, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
