Papa Courtney’s music is more than just a collection of songs—it’s a reflection of his life, his experiences, and the emotions that have shaped him. For several years, he has dedicated himself to creating heartfelt and laid-back tunes that resonate with listeners. His guitar playing, which has become a way of life, serves as his tool for self-expression. Now 53 years old, Papa Courtney continues to make his mark as an artist, sharing his story through music and gaining recognition for his unique sound.

Discovering a New Purpose in Music

Papa Courtney has always had a strong connection to music, but it wasn’t until recent years that he began pouring his heart into songwriting. Before fully diving into his music career, he spent most of his time raising his three boys and caring for his parents, especially during their final years. His father passed away in 2020, and his mother’s death in 2023 was a pivotal moment for him. The experience of watching her decline over 15 days left a lasting impact, driving him to reassess his own life.

Reflecting on his mother’s passing, Papa Courtney realized that memories, while cherished, eventually fade. Determined not to fade away without leaving a mark, he turned to songwriting as a way to express his thoughts and emotions. In just nine months, he had written 16 songs, each one representing his journey as both an artist and a person. The process of creating these songs has been both therapeutic and inspiring for him.

Despite working on a tight budget, which he affectionately calls his “thin spaghetti budget,” Papa Courtney has found a way to make music that truly resonates with people. His dedication to his craft and his ability to create something meaningful from his life experiences have propelled him forward.

We had the privilege of interviewing the Music Artist. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Hi, Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

My name is PAPA COURTNEY. I’m a simple guy who has something to say, and what better way to say it than along some chill, laidback music. I’m 53 years old, but thank the lord, that age is just a number. Lol, whew, thanks, big guy lol. I come from Germany originally but have lived in Arizona since 1983. I raised my kids and three boys and took care of my parents until their passing.

Please tell us about your journey.

I have been playing guitar for about 40 years and have always loved creating music. I could just play for hours, and it feels like minutes; I’m hooked, lol. I raised my three boys and took care of my aging parents after that. Dad passed away in 2020, and my mom passed away in 2023, but my mom’s passing hit me in a way that I will never forget. I basically watched her die for 15 days, and I remember thinking after she had passed that now she was just a memory, and they fade away; I’m not going out like that. So I started writing songs, and nine months later, I have 16 songs that I really think are all pretty good. You can hear my progression with each song, and I’m doing all this on a thin spaghetti budget, lol; I’m looking for someone to help me produce and a sound engineer to help me master my older songs again.

My biggest platform is YouTube right now, with 15,000 subscribers, and my new song, Your All You Got, has been out for 12 days and has hit 15,000 views already.

At the moment, I’m traveling from Arizona to New York, trying to meet as many people as possible and get my name and music out there. I and my pal, SEXY REXY shepherd malamute mix, is on the road as I’m writing this, and I’m working on my next song, which I should hopefully have done in a few weeks. I just finished 1 of the guitar parts, so it’s coming along. I try to write a new song every four weeks or so, but being on the road, it might be quicker or slower; time will tell lol. My strategy right now is to go meet the people one FAN at a time. If I have to, I think my music is pretty chill, and like I said, I’m looking for that little bit of help to make it as good as it deserves to be.

Any message for our readers

A special message would maybe be, please just give me a chance and at least one listen. I promise you won’t be disappointed. My biggest platform is YouTube, but I’m on TikTok, Instagram, Pandora, iHeart, apple, amazon, and, of course, the very AWESOME AWESOME SPOTIFY; I’m at a lot of places, and please comment. I love my fans and will reply 100%, and it is me replying. It might take me a couple of days, but the FANS is what it really is all about.

How can people find out about you?

Well, just ask. I’m pretty easygoing; google me. Like I said, YouTube right now is my biggest platform, or email me; I am pretty easy to find, I hope lol.

Thank you so much, PAPA COURTNEY, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
