Today, we are interviewing Eva Ramirez, a brand marketer, SEO/SEM specialist, and a trend hunter. She also runs an online magazine by the name of ‘Agora Kizomba’. This is the first magazine about Afro and Latin rhythms which is focused on Northern European countries.
1. Please tell us something about yourself.
A few years ago, I started a magazine of Afro-Latino rhythms, at first, it was focused on the Spanish-speaking public in the United States. Still, there these types of rhythms are very well known. Since I like challenges, in 2018, I decided to focus my magazine to another geographical area where these rhythms are not so well known, as are the countries of northern Europe.
2. How did you get into what you do right now? Please tell us more about your journey?
I discovered Kizomba in 2015, and since then, I have not stopped attending classes and events, when I could.
One day I started looking for information on the internet, and I realized that there are excellent videos, but there is not much-written information. I have always liked writing, and that motivated me to try to carry out a magazine about kizomba and other Afro-Latino rhythms.
3. Who are your role models?
My role model is my family, from whom I have learned to be persistent.
4. What inspires you?
I am inspired by my family, of course, my friends, my dance teachers, Richard and Naylé, and all the people who have supported me in my project. I am very grateful to the people whom I have interviewed for my magazine.
5. Please tell us about what you do.
As I said before, I work as a brand marketer, that’s my profession, but my free time is dedicated to “Agora Kizomba”, which is the name of my magazine.
It is a magazine about Afro-Latin rhythms (Kizomba, Semba, Kuduro, Afrohouse, Tarraxo, etc.). It is currently focused on Northern European countries.
There are several sections:
– Interviews with musicians, dancers, teachers, DJs, etc
– African dances
– Kizomba dancing tips
– Trips to places where these rhythms can be danced to
and a very special section called Kizomba at first sight, in which people who have never seen this type of dance watch several videos and comment on their first impressions. In this section, I have even interviewed rock singers, actors, and businessmen.
6. What’s your most memorable experience?
I once interviewed a musician who, on seeing Kizomba’s video, was quite impressed with the dance because it requires very close physical contact. I enjoy every interview I do. I love talking to event organizers and dance teachers. They do a very hard job, and it’s not as recognized as it should be.
7. Which social media channels work best for promoting your work? What exactly do you do on the social media channel that makes it work for you?
Today, social networks are essential to promote our work.
I use several: Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, and Pinterest, because they are the most visual.
I think that every project or every company should be promoted on those social networks that best suit their target audience. Not all social networks are valid for all products or services, you have to know where your audience is
8. Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?
I would have liked to have a better knowledge of languages that have traveled abroad previously.
9. What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
I think the best way to achieve success is to be consistent and never give up.
10. What keeps you going when things get tough?
When things get tough, I use my sense of humor, if we laugh at our problems and ourselves, the obstacles don’t seem so insurmountable.
11. Any message for our readers.
Those of you who have never danced before, I advise you to try dancing, whether it is Afro-Latin rhythms or any other dance. Still, I encourage you to discover kizomba, semba, zouk, kuduro, etc. You will surely find a type of dance with which you feel more identified. Studies show that dancing can help you lose weight, stay flexible, reduce stress, make friends, and more.
12. How can people connect with you?
You can connect with me on my website and on my social networks. My Instagram handle is @eva.akmagazine.
P.S. If you felt inspired after reading this Interview, request you to please share with your friends on social media because your friends might get inspired too!
