‘Crimson Wings – Orders From Below’ Is Author B.T. Skylark’s Finest Work Yet

Crimson Wings – Orders From Below: Fire, Loyalty, and the Weight of History

B.T. Skylark’s Crimson Wings – Orders From Below is the second book in a trilogy that soars between history and legend. With dragons streaking across the skies of World War II, it tells the story of three unlikely figures who never sought fame but found themselves etched into memory. Skylark combines fantasy, grit, and heart to craft a sequel that deepens both the characters and the world around them.

A City Under Siege

The novel begins with London trembling beneath nightly air raids. Henry, Victor, and Crimson—the dragon whose fiery wings light the darkness—have survived the first brutal days of the Battle of Britain. Their survival, however, does not free them from the war. Instead, it ties them tighter to it. Each mission demands more than the last, and Henry, still a boy, is asked to carry responsibilities far greater than his years.

In Skylark’s hands, London is more than a backdrop. The city breathes with urgency. The fear of civilians, the resilience of its defenders, and the haunting quiet after bombings all add weight to the story. Against this backdrop, Henry becomes both fighter and symbol, representing a fragile hope for people desperate to believe legends still rise in dark times.

A Dangerous Rival Emerges

Every great story builds toward a challenge that tests its heroes. In this book, it’s the whispered rumor of another dragon, one raised by the enemy across the Channel. The thought of facing such a creature unsettles Henry and Victor more than any bomber or soldier. How do you stand against a force that mirrors your own?

This new danger heightens every moment. Skylark writes with tension that lingers, leaving readers to wonder if courage alone can withstand betrayal, loss, and fire from the skies. The arrival of a rival dragon forces the characters to question not only their survival but also the limits of loyalty. It’s an enemy that feels personal, a shadow that stalks their every flight.

A Story of Difference and Strength

What makes Orders From Below unique is the voice behind its characters. Henry is a neurodivergent protagonist, and his perspective shapes the way readers see both war and friendship. Skylark’s portrayal is not about struggle for acceptance; instead, it shows how difference brings resilience and clarity in moments of chaos.

This representation enriches the story. Henry’s thoughts, decisions, and doubts feel authentic, and readers who’ve ever felt misunderstood will recognize themselves in his journey. Alongside him, Victor provides steadiness and loyalty, while Crimson becomes more than a dragon—she is family, protector, and constant companion. The trio’s bond highlights the idea that family is not always defined by blood but by those who refuse to leave when storms gather.

The Author’s Touch

B.T. Skylark brings lived experience to the page. Based in Brighton, they balance writing with simple joys—gardening, cooking, video games, and life with a supportive husband and three energetic dogs. With a degree in Psychology and Criminology completed in 2025, Skylark weaves insight into trauma, resilience, and identity into their storytelling.

Writing began as a personal form of therapy, but it quickly grew into something larger. Skylark’s mission has become clear: to give voice to characters who often remain in the margins. Their stories celebrate those who feel overlooked, offering readers a chance to see strength in places the world might miss. This purpose shines through every chapter of Orders From Below.

A Trilogy Worth the Journey

The Crimson Wings series carries readers on a path of growth, danger, and legend. The first book, The Boy Who Flew, released in June 2025, introduced Henry, Victor, and Crimson with the spark of discovery. Orders From Below raises the tension, pushing them into deeper battles and impossible decisions. The saga will conclude with Rise of the Fallen, set for November 2025, where the trio’s legacy promises to reach its defining moment.

Together, these books are more than just historical fantasy. They are stories about ordinary people drawn into extraordinary roles. They ask what happens when young lives collide with the weight of history, and how symbols are forged in times of fire.

Why Readers Will Remember

Crimson Wings – Orders From Below leaves an impression because it blends action with heart. There are thrilling dogfights, fire-scorched skies, and moments of near-despair. Yet, what lingers are the bonds of friendship, the search for belonging, and the courage to face impossible odds. Skylark reminds us that history remembers those who dared to rise, even when fear pressed them down.

For readers who crave adventure, heartfelt characters, and a mix of history with myth, this book delivers. It’s a story that entertains while also offering something deeper: the reassurance that even in the darkest skies, there are wings willing to fly.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Hi, Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

My name is B.T. Skylark, and I’m a neurodivergent author from Brighton in the UK. I write historical fantasy with a focus on characters who don’t always have a voice in traditional storytelling. My books bring together history, imagination, and representation to create stories of courage, belonging, and resilience.

Please tell us about your journey.

I began writing after completing my degree in Psychology and Criminology in 2025. At first, it was something therapeutic — a way to process and relax — but it quickly grew into a passion. I wanted to write stories that reflected the experiences of people like me: those who feel different, who don’t always fit in, and whose voices are often left out or misunderstood. My Crimson Wings series combines my love of history, fantasy, and representation, weaving them into something I hope resonates with readers of all ages.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Consistency has been key — showing up for my writing even on difficult days. I’ve also leaned into authenticity, writing the stories I needed when I was younger rather than chasing trends. Engaging with my readers has been incredibly rewarding, as has connecting with independent bookstores and building a supportive online community.

Any message for our readers?

Never underestimate the power of your own story. Even if you feel like you don’t fit in, there is space for you, and there are people who will connect deeply with your truth. And to readers — thank you. Every time you pick up a book, you give an author’s voice a chance to live.

Thank you so much, B.T. Skylark, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
