In a time when anxiety seems to be a common thread in many lives, especially among children, Tariq Zein offers a refreshing perspective in his new book, “I’m NOT Scared, I’m EXCITED!!!“ This self-published treasure isn’t just for kids—it’s a heartfelt guide for anyone looking to transform nervousness into enthusiasm.
Meet Adam: A Young Hero with a Powerful Secret
The story introduces us to Adam, a boy who has discovered a simple yet profound secret: the power of positive thinking. Whenever Adam feels the creeping sensations of fear or anxiety, he doesn’t let them take over. Instead, he confidently tells himself, “I’m NOT scared, I’m EXCITED!” This mantra isn’t just words; it’s a mindset shift that turns daunting situations into thrilling adventures.
Adam’s journey is relatable and inspiring. He shows readers that by changing the way we talk to ourselves, we can change how we feel. His method is straightforward—smile big, breathe deeply, and embrace the excitement of new experiences. It’s a lesson in self-empowerment that’s as accessible to a child facing a new school as it is to an adult tackling life’s challenges.
The Magic of Positive Affirmations and Visualization
Zein’s book delves into techniques similar to the law of attraction, emphasizing the use of positive affirmations over negative ones. The repetition of empowering phrases like “I’m NOT scared, I’m EXCITED!” reinforces the message and helps it stick. This repetition is especially effective for young readers, who often learn best through repeated exposure to concepts.
Visualization also plays a key role in Adam’s strategy. By picturing himself succeeding—seeing the “Finish Line” in his mind—he builds confidence and reduces anxiety. Coupled with simple breathing exercises, these techniques provide practical tools that readers can apply immediately.
Behind the Pages: Tariq Zein’s Personal Touch
What makes this book even more special is the personal connection Zein brings to it. As a former ESL teacher who has taught in Taiwan, Turkey, and Canada, he’s seen firsthand how fear and anxiety can affect people of all ages and backgrounds. Now residing in Toronto with his family, Zein draws inspiration from his own children and the pressures they face in today’s world.
The idea for the book came from a moment of reflection on how to help his kids cope with anxiety. Remembering the lessons his mother taught him about positive thinking and finding humor in every situation, Zein penned a story that encapsulates those values. His mother’s influence is evident throughout the book, as is his desire to pass on these coping mechanisms to the next generation.
Why This Book Matters
“I’m NOT Scared, I’m EXCITED!!!” is more than just a children’s story; it’s a practical guide to emotional resilience. In a society where mental health is a growing concern, especially among young people, Zein’s book offers a simple yet effective approach to managing anxiety. By encouraging readers to take control of their thoughts and emotions, it empowers them to face challenges head-on.

We had the privilege of interviewing Tariq Zein. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Hi Tariq, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.
Hi, I’m a self-published author. I’ve always enjoyed writing but never really sat down and wrote seriously. I thought I’d give it my best shot. Aside from school, this is my first time trying to write a book.
Please tell us about your book, I’m NOT Scared, I’m EXCITED!!!.
Similar to the law of attraction, this book focuses on using positive affirmations rather than negative ones in various scenarios. Repetition works wonders with children. I would say the book is suitable for all ages, not just children.
Please tell us about your journey.
Having children of my own, I could feel the pressure and anxiety that this World can bring on them… and all of us. Something came into my mind, and I wrote it down. It started with a title, I’m Not Scared, I’m Excited! As for the book itself, I just used the lessons that my mother taught me while growing up. She’s always trying to see the light or humor in other people and situations, even to this day. She taught me that through the law of attraction, self-affirmations, and positive thinking, we can find a way to see things in a different light. We often lose sight of the fact that when one door closes, there are a thousand other doors that open; we just need to look for them. I tried to use repetition in the book, as the main focus is remembering to always smile, breathe deeply, and tell yourself in any given situation… I’m NOT scared, I’m EXCITED!!! I hope you enjoy the book.
Any message for our readers?
Yes, I would say to always remember, no matter the challenge we can decide to choose fear, or we can decide to be excited. Choose the latter. Big Smile. Breathe deeply. Now say it with me. I’m NOT scared, I’m EXCITED!!!
Thank you so much, Tariq, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
